Most party leaders from the Southeast and Southwest were worried last night on the tenure framework of Atiku which exceeds four years.

There was anxiety yesterday in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the discovery that the policy plan of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has extended to a likely second term in office.
Instead of planning for a single term of four years, Atiku’s targets have a six-year timeline, fueling speculations that he might be hoping for two terms in office.
Most party leaders from the Southeast and Southwest were worried last night on the tenure framework in the document tagged People’s Policy”.
According to a PDP governor, who spoke in confidence with The Nation, the “policy is causing some disquiet because it does not give a ray of hope that power will shift from the North to the South in 2023 if Atiku is elected as the nation’s president in 2019.

“Some of us were expecting a timeline of 2019 to 2023 but the policy plan is mostly made up of a six-year plan.

“The people of the South-East, South-West and South-South want a commitment from Atiku on whether or not he will spend one term in office in order to complete the slot of the North.

“We are suspecting that those who drafted the policy have a hidden agenda of two terms in office for Atiku.”
A member of the National Working Committee of the party said: “I think our candidate is planning for the future for the country. It may not be a matter of second term ambition.

“Atiku has not really been categorical on whether or not he will spend one term in office. So, those raising dust on 2025 policy plan are getting agitated to know where he stands.”
The governor took time to highlight some of the contentious areas which have drawn suspicion on Atiku’s plan.
The document said: “The State’s critical policy priority is to build a broad based, dynamic and competitive economy with a GDP of US$900 billion by 2025

“By 2025, we shall increase the inflow of direct foreign investment to a minimum of 2.5% of our GDP Working towards achieving the lowest corporate income tax rate in Africa.

“Accelerate investment to double our infrastructure stock to approximately 50% of GDP by 2025 and 70% by 2030.

“Achieve a sustained increase in manufacturing output from 9% to 30% of GDP by 2025.

“Reduce the sector’s dependence on imported raw materials. Looking inwards will promote value addition.

“Achieve a diversified production structure with more processing of domestic raw materials.”
On electricity, Atiku said: “Power sector reform will be a critical policy priority. By 2025, Nigeria shall make giant strides in diversifying its sources of power and delivering up to 20,000 MW.”
The document indicated that the same 2025 timeline was assigned to crude oil production.
It said: “Prioritise investment in nameplate capacity and ensure that Nigeria starts to refine 50% of its current crude oil output of 2 million bpd by 2025.

“Privatise all four-outstanding government-owned refineries to competent off-takers with mandates to produce agreed levels of refined output.

“Issue new licences for Greenfield investment in crude oil refining and allied activities.

“Introduce market friendly fiscal and pricing policies.”
Concerning road development, the policy document gave also a timeline of 2025.
It added: “Develop 5,000km of roads by 2025 through PPPs and community interventions. Develop and rehabilitate the connecting road networks across the geo-political zones.

“Reduce gradually the rate of unemployment and under-employment to a single digit by 2025.

“Encourage transportation development around the nation’s agricultural and industrial clusters.

“Construct up to 5,000km of modern railways through privatisation, PPPs and public investments.

“Improve existing port efficiency and achieve accelerated development of alternative container ports, especially inland dry ports.”
Speaking with a correspondent last night, one of Atiku’s strategists, Mr. Phrank Shaibu ( who is also a communication expert), said:“2025 is not an eight-year term; it is a six-year plan Whoever takes over will complete the programmes.

“The ruling party’s focus should be more on damage control to enable them offer seeming apologies to millions of Nigerians they have diaappointed and the millions they have put in the labour market through their ill performance in government.

“So, the issue of campaign promises will not hold water for the Buhari camp as their participation in this election is just for posterity to be subtle in judgement of failure.”
On the kind of campaign to expect, Shaibu, who is also a close associate of Atiku, said: “A large population of Nigerians have been taught new lessons on poor leadership and now have a better understanding of disinformation because they feel the reality of economic pains and hopelessness that have been thrust upon them in the past three years.
“Consequently, the campaign for 2019 presidential elections will be based on truth campaign.

“Right now, the electorate have grown in knowledge of what choice will be best for them, especially on their safety, real economic growth and equity.

“Nigerians will experience a new trend of issue based campaign. The two major contestants have been tested and their performance cum capacities to deliver well documented.

“Already, we have a lot of decided voters, especially given their sad experiences and difficulties in the past three years under a president that has ruled Nigeria twice with established antecendent of bringing upon the citizenry abject poverty.

“I believe the campaign focus will be on the few undecided voters. This category of persons when shown and educated on some hidden facts of maladministration, especially on gross embezzlement, many shades of corruption, selective justice and deceits, will reach early conclusions on which camp to give their mandate.”

Lai Mohammed has mocked Saraki as the ruling APC cruises to victory in Kwara State in the House of Representatives by-election.

 Lai Mohammed
Minister of Information of Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed yesterday described the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in the House of Representatives by-election in Kwara State as the breaking of the Berlin Wall of the state’s politics.
Mohammed, the APC leader in Kwara State, was alluding to the dominance of the Saraki dynasty in the state.
Speaking at his country home of Oro during a victory rally organised by APC supporters, Mohammed said: “It was the will of the people that prevailed. God has turned the seemingly political impregnability of Saraki’s dynasty to foolishness. APC is God-ordained for this state and the country.
“With this victory you have broken the Berlin Wall and same will repeat itself in 2019 elections.”
He added: “One thing I requested from President Muhammadu Buhari before I left Abuja for the election is the provision of adequate security before, during and after the election. And the security agents discharged their duties professionally.

“This accounted for the peaceful conduct of the election. I have been participating elections in this state since 2003, this has been one the most peaceful.

“Some PDP members were peddling rumours that I was going about with security agents to intimidate opponents. There is no truth in that.”
All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Raheem Olawuyi won the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency by-election.
Returning Officer Prof. Abimbola Adesoji announced at the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Omu-Aran, that Olawuyi polled 21, 236 to defeat his closest rival Saheed Damilare of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 18, 095.
Other contestants in the election were Femi Ona-Ara of Labour Party, Ajadi Olayemi of Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) as well as Olaniyan Ayorinde of Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
Abimbola gave the total number of registered voters as 168, 707, accredited voters as 41,185, valid votes as 39,599, rejected votes as 1, 331 and votes cast as 40,930.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some cancellations arising from snatching of ballot boxes and over voting were reportedly experienced in three polling units in Irepodun Local Government Area.
The affected units as listed by the Presiding Officer in charge of the council included Registration Area (RA) 02 of Esie-Ijan Ward where two ballot boxes were reportedly snatched and 955 number of registered voters lost.
Other areas were Oro Ward 1 RA 02, Polling Unit 01 where a case of ballot snatching was recorded and a total of 297 registered voters were affected and over voting in Oro Ward 2 RA 10 Polling Unit 01 with 474 registered votes lost.
Election cancellation was also recorded in Ile Apaasin RA 04 Polling Unit in Isin Local Government where only 59 voters were accredited but turned in 377 votes.
Some Independent National Electoral Officers were attacked and injured. The declaration of the results was witnessed by notable officials, including the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Fafowora, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner Malam Garuba Madami as well as his Imo and Lagos counterparts, Mr Emeka Nzeonu and Mr Sam Olumekun.
Party chairman Bashir Bolarinwa, governrship candidate Abdulrazak Abdulrahman, among others, hailed the process and the victory.
Olawuyi described his victory as one for the people. Olawuyi said the success was a sign of more victories to come for the APC in the 2019 elections
“This is a happy moment for me because we have been doing this for a long time.

“When your time has come, no one can stop you but at the same time, I give glory to God, because it is the best time Allah has created for me.

“My party believed in me to put me forward for the assignment and I thank God I have delivered,” he said.
Olawuyi, who described his party as the best in Africa, said he was never scared of the opposition because he is a grassroots politician loved by his people.
He said because of the fact that his people loved him and followed him with passion, he would always defeat his opponents in a free and fair election.
Olawuyi said the state government’s statement that the election was between the PDP and the security agencies was laughable because it was what they were used to.
He is now sure of an APC victory in the state in the 2019 general elections because of the spirit the electorate have demonstrated.
Abdulrazaq said: “This victory represents a great leap in our people’s lifelong yearning for political freedom, good governance, development, accountability and integrity.

“It is the beginning of the end for characters who have held our dear state to ransom, characters who have made Kwara and its people the butt of national jokes!

“The outcome, more than anything else, asserts the fact that our people have had enough of the status quo. They are saying enough is enough and the time to move Kwara to the next level is now.

“As we savour this well preserved victory, we therefore urge our people to not relent as we head to the general election where, God willing, we will see to the end of a status quo that represents backwardness, corruption and disdain for socioeconomic advancement of the people and the state.

“One of the secrets of our success in this by-election is the suppression and almost total eradication of criminals and armed thugs hitherto used in rigging elections in Kwara. Kwarans will never forget the 31 lives lost in the Offa robbery; we will ensure that their lives were not lost in vain.

“We thank the security agencies for their efficiency and disciplined discharge of duties.

“We thank the electoral commission for conducting a free and fair election and resisting desperate attempts to subvert the rules and manipulate the poll. We urge these government agencies to keep up the good work.”

Nigerians have been urged to eat more of bitterleaf as an expert has revealed it has very potent medicinal uses.
Bitterleaf
Dr Grace Johnson, a specialist, has said bitter leaf works so well for fertility, and fights prostate cancer because its boost the functions of the reproductive system, balance hormones and help the ovary release healthy eggs.

A plot is being allegedly hatched to remove the CAN vice president, causing serious anxiety in the Christian body.
Anxiety and tension have enveloped the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over alleged moves by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to remove the association’s Vice President, Prof. Joseph Otubu, Daily Sun reports.
It was gathered that today’s emergency NEC meeting was meant to discuss other issues that affect CAN, but, an insider said CAN’s President, Dr. Supo Ayokunle, allegedly altered the agenda to focus on the vice president.
Ayokunle and Otubu have been at loggerheads over alleged “sell out” of CAN by its president and ‘hobnobbing’ with the Federal Government, which had allegedly activated state security apparatus against Christians in Nigeria.
There were media reports, over the weekend, that NEC meeting, scheduled to hold today was to deliberate on the dispute between the two CAN leaders and, possibly, resolve the rift.
Prof. Otubu, had, in a petition to NEC, accused Ayokunle of financial mismanagement and maladministration.
NEC responded to the allegations by setting up a committee to look into the petition, as demanded by the petitioner.
The committee was said to have invited all individuals involved to appear before it with evidences, to substantiate the allegations and defend. CAN leadership said Otubu was the only person involved in the matter who did not appear before the committee.
He was said to have deliberately, or otherwise, disregarded all invitations extended to him by the committee, but, only responded when the report of the committee was released.
Meanwhile, the media aide to CAN President, Bayo Oladeji, told Daily Sun that the alleged plot to remove Otubu was untrue.
He said: “It is totally untrue. The kite could have been flown by Otubu’s loyalists, to pre-empt the possible outcome of the NEC meeting.”
When contacted, Otubu, said the NEC has no constitutional power to remove him as CAN’s vice president and “all their efforts would be in futility.
“Please disregard the media report and the alleged rumour. Constitutionally, they have no power to unseat me,” he said.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is currently under attack by alleged thugs who are armed and are wielding dangerous weapons, as they burn tyres and disrupt regular movement into the assembly complex.

Scene of the incident
According to a post made on Twitter by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Akwa Ibom state house of assembly was on Monday, invaded by suspected thugs, who prevented the lawmakers from gaining access into the assembly premises.
Reports revealed that the development was connected with a court order declaring vacant the seat of Idongesit Ituen, member representing Itu constituency.
Ituen was recently sacked as a member of the state assembly by the federal high court. The court judgement followed his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Luke Onofiok, speaker of the Akwa Ibom house of assembly, had a few days ago, barred Ituen from attending plenary.

Meanwhile, the PDP has alleged that the APC is behind the barricade.
A tweet by the opposition party read: “The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), premises is under heavy attack by members of @OfficialAPCNg thugs.

“The thugs invaded the complex, chanting the slogan “APC! Change” as they set fire and blocked the entrance to the assembly complex.
Recall that the @OfficialPDPNig State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong had earlier this morning alerted the public via a press release of the impending attack planned by the @OfficialAPCNg to forestall seating by the members of the AKHA today.
We therefore call on the @PoliceNG and other security agencies to move in quickly to restore peace and order in the State. We believe the Police will bring the perpetrators to book as we advise members of the public to stay away from the AKHA and its environment."

Famous rapper, Kanye West surprised his wife, Kim Kardashian after she rejected a $1 million deal because of him.
Famous reality star, Kim Kardashian West was offered the opportunity to do a sponsored post with a clothing brand for $1 million some time ago and she wanted to know what husband Kanye West thought before taking the deal.
Kim, while speaking to Ashley Graham on her debut episode of her podcast, Pretty Big Deal, said, “It is great money, but the brand was typically knockoff Yeezy, so I said let me ask Kanye how he feels about it.”
Kanye West then told his wife to turn it down and she obliged. But to make up for the lost business opportunity, the Yeezy designer sent Kardashian West a $1 million check for Mother’s Day two weeks later.
“He happened to be recording out of town and I get an envelope delivered to the door. I open the envelope and it is a million dollar check and a note saying, ‘Thank you for always supporting me and not posting,'” Kardashian West says.
She adds, “My mom was like, ‘Are you going to cash this?’ And I was like, ‘You better believe I am going to cash this!’ I have no shame. I did feel bad, but two days later, I was like, cashed!”
But that wasn’t the only big gift West gave the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star for Mother’s Day this year. The fashion designer and rapper also granted her an ownership percentage of his Yeezy brand.
“In the rest of the envelope, it was a full, thick contract to be an owner of Yeezy to my have my percentage,” Kardashian West says.

Many folks are complaining that the selfies they take with iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, which are the new iPhones, are making them look too beautiful.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with people looking very beautiful, other than the sometimes undesirable attention that beauty generates.
Moreover, a little enhancement here and there on your looks doesn’t sound much like a bad idea. However, many folks are complaining that the selfies they take with iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, which are the new iPhones, are making them look too beautiful. People think that the camera is over-processing their faces with filters that smooth out their skins – getting rid of stuff like acne or rashes – and making their skin look clearer and nicer. How dare the iPhone make people look more attractive?
Yes, the new technologies in iPhone appear to smooth out your skin and reduce shadows and other details in photos you take with the phones’ selfie cameras. The effect is similar to the so-called “beauty mode” on some other smartphones such as Samsung and in some apps.
The difference is that, whereas you can adjust or turn on/off the beauty mode (beauty filter) in these other phones, the phenomenon observed in iPhone is automatic (hard-coded) and can’t be controlled by you. (Ironically, one of the big selling features of the new iPhone XS is the 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The front-facing camera is for the selfie, whereas the backward-facing cameras are for the regular shots.)
Apple says it does not offer the beauty filter feature in iPhones, though it seems that the effects of the new photographic techniques in iPhone are similar to those of beauty filters.
According to the company, the selfie camera system on the new iPhone uses faster sensors, improved chips and “advanced algorithms” to make your photos look better with a feature called “Smart HDR.” Some users believe Apple uses the beauty filter in its cameras’ algorithms.
Is the complaint of too much beauty an overreaction? Beauty is not supposed to be such a bad thing. However, some people want their photos to look like them, “warts and all!” Actually, it is a case of “one man’s meat being another’s poison,” as some people, particularly in Asia, actually love the beauty mode feature in smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxies. Meitu, an app from China, is advertised as the most advanced way to make your photos more beautiful, and it is loved in China. FaceTune, developed in Jerusalem, is another photo-beautifying app. These apps smooth out and brighten your skin so you look a little more polished on social media.
What does Apple say? Apple traces the problem to its aggressive effort to reduce the noise from shots taken by smartphones. A serious noise problem happens when you take photos in low light, which causes little bits of grain to appear across the photo. Noise is a particular problem with smartphone cameras because they have small lenses and sensors that are not able to allow much light in as do professional rigs. Apple’s disposition centres on producing high quality cameras by improving the system’s chips to enable noise reduction in photos.
This is what the company says it does: “We set a reference frame and fuse in information from multiple frames. As you stack the frames, if you have the same image, you have lower and lower noise and better and better detail.”
Lewis Hilsenteger of Business Insider interprets this to mean that “perhaps if a photo is taken with more light, the smoothing would appear less prominent. A test run on Thursday in natural daylight did show a less pronounced smoothing effect.”
Let’s look at the great technologies, two them, behind the cameras in iPhone XS. One is HDR, or High Dynamic Range, which is a photographic technique for dealing with tricky lighting situations. As someone phrases it, when you have both bright spots and shadows in the same frame, it becomes difficult to capture a good image, as either the bright parts will lack detail or the shadowy parts will appear too dark. With Apple’s “Smart HDR,” you are able to capture great detail from dark and bright areas, to obtain brighter reflections, cleaner shadows, and you can see further into distances. The HDR will eliminate shadowy or washed out areas. Because HDR takes several different images, you can notice slowness in your camera if you are taking several photos in quick succession.
The other technology to be aware of in iPhone XS is “bokeh.” Bokeh is a Japanese language word that refers to the quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image as rendered by a lens. It is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens.
Bokeh makes photographs visually appealing and forces us to focus our attention on a particular area of the image. It is said to be one of the most popular subjects in photography. Apple calls bokeh, the portrait mode, or the bokeh effect. Bokeh can be seen as the amount of background blur used to give an image definition. I’ll call bokeh “making nice with blurriness.”

Criminals have now begun to engage in the dangerous act of kidnapping dead bodies from mortuaries in Imo state.
*From left: Chukwudi Chukwu and Bethel Ibeh, suspected kidnappers of a female corpse in Imo State. Photo by Chinonso Alozie
If nothing is done soonest, relatives of the deceased in the morgue, may start facing another dimension of sorrow for keeping the dead in the mortuary.
South-East Voice gathered in Owerri, that kidnappers might have found a new dangerous trend, whereby they break into motuaries and collect the dead bodies after which they demand for ransom either from the relatives or a proprietor of the targeted mortuary.
One of such incidents happened in Imo State, where a female corpse was stolen by two young men after which they were said to have asked the manager of the mortuary to pay them a ransom of N5million.
In what some had described as a new trend by kidnappers, took place in the month of September, 2018, in  Ikeduru Local Government Area. The name of the affected mortuary where the suspects stole the dead body was given as Jesus Hospital Motuary.
The suspects who were arrested and paraded at the Imo Police Command, gave their names as Chukwudi Chukwu, 28-year-old man and Bethel Ibeh 29-year-old man.
One of the suspects, Chukwu told South-East Voice, that he is from Okwu while Ibeh claimed to be a native of Ugiri Ike, both of Ikeduru Local Government Area in Imo State.
The two suspects were said to have gained entrance into the mortuary in the night through one of the windows and pulled out the dead body.
They went to the forest and deposited the lifeless body and started communicating with the man in charge of the mortuary to offer them a sum of N5million before they would release the body to him.
The deceased was in the forest for more than a week, according to the manager of the mortuary, Mr. Prince Charles Nwanshi.
He said: “I was worried when they called me to give them N5million. I was thinking of what to tell the owners of the dead body. I was comfortable because the relatives of the kidnapped body will hardly believe me.

“I was confused. I was advised to report the matter to the Police, which I did. It was after a week that the body was recovered and these two boys were captured.”
Nwanshi continued: “I am surprised that one of the boys is my former staff. I could not believe it. I want to tell you that I have suffered and I thank the Imo Police for handling this matter professionally.”
Speaking to South-East Voice, both suspects confessed to the crime and pleaded that it was poverty that led them to committing a thing like that.
While Chukwu, said: “I did not know when I did it. I want the police to forgive me.” Ibeh said: “I was encouraged by Chukwu to join him in this business. I will not do it again.”
Meanwhile, residents were thrown into shock as they discused among themselves what could have  prompted young boys to visit the mortuary just to steal dead bodies and demand for ransom without any iota of fear.
Reportedly, the number of motuaries in Imo State had increased which may also portend great danger.
With residents calling for improved security in the state, there is also need to monitor activities in and around mortuaries to curtail similar development.
This is as motuary proprietors in Imo State had been advised to establish a quick information dissemination in case of any threat to their businesses.
A resident, Mr Okechukwu Ibeh, who spoke to South-East Voice, said: “For me, I am shocked. How can  young people think of going to a mortuary to steal dead bodies? They want to make money and I ask which type of money is this? Will they be alive to enjoy this money?

“My thinking is that, the police must introduce different tactics in this early time just to nip it in the bud.”
Also, a mortuary attendant who did not want his name mentioned said: “Some of these mortuaries are not protected. They don’t have fence. You can even see the dead bodies from  afar. They expose them and leave the bodies outside.  They are even beaten by rain.

“Another  problem is that some people who establish mortuaries don’t even manage them well, that is why you hear stories of people coming to a mortuary to carry a corpse that is not their relative. I think the government should intervene in this matter.”

Two women who stole a child and sold her off in Anambra have been nabbed as police launch serious investigation.
The suspects
Punch Metro reports that a two-year-old girl, who was stolen by a trafficking syndicate, has been rescued by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.
The victim, who was sold for N300,000 to a buyer in Delta State, was reportedly resold to another member of the syndicate in Anambra State, who resold her to a woman in Enugu State.
A police source said the child’s mother, who lived on Oluwale Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, had handed her over to some relatives while going out.
He said, “The relatives were careless with the child and they did not know when she was stolen by members of the syndicate.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident, said the victim’s father petitioned the police over the matter.
He said, “On May 1, 2018, the command received a complaint from one Nwoagbo Ekene that on the same date, around 11am, his two-year-old daughter suddenly disappeared and all efforts to trace her whereabouts had proven abortive.

“Based on his complaint, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, directed the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, SP Musa Bulus, to use all the assets at his disposal to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of the little girl.

“Consequently, investigation was instituted and in the course of it, one Ms. Joy Okoye, 28, of No.64 Kirikiri Street, Olodi Apapa, was arrested in connection with the case.

“On interrogation, the suspect revealed that she and one Amarachi , who is still at large, stole the child and sold her for N300,000 to one Miss Uju Obieze, 40, of  Okwe Road, Asaba, Delta State.”
Oti noted that the police proceeded to Asaba and apprehended Obieze on September 13, 2018, adding that the suspect, who confessed to buying the child, said she had also resold her.
“Obieze confessed to have bought the child from Joy Okoye, but added that the deal was done jointly with one Ifeyinwa Ezene, 46, of Eze Bishop Street, Onitsha, Anambra State.

“Ezene was apprehended and she confessed to the crime by corroborating the statements of the other two suspects. She added that the child had been resold to one Ifeoma Okoye, who lives in Enugu,” the police spokesperson added.
However, when all the suspects were taken to Okoye’s residence on Amaechi Street, Agbani Road, Enugu, she was said to have died.
A crowd of mourners reportedly said Okoye died a week earlier and her remains were in a mortuary.
The police spokesperson said while the victim was rescued from the house and reunited with her parents, the three suspects were returned to Lagos for prosecution.
Oti said the three women would be charged to court on Wednesday (today).

Seyi Makinde
The candidate of the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming 2019 election, Seyi Makinde, on Monday alleged that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress , Ahmed Tinubu , and some businessmen's interference in the politics of Oyo State had dragged the state backward .
He alleged that a repeat of the interference was witnessed even in the governorship primaries that took place in Ibadan , the state capital , on Sunday.
In a statement issued by the Makinde’s Campaign Office and signed by the media coordinator, Dotun Oyelade , the PDP candidate said it was disrespectful to party members and the Oyo State people for Tinubu to dictate who should rule the state, alleging that the problems Tinubu created in Lagos was still unresolved and festering.
He said, “Recall that similar imposition occurred in 2011 when a former Governor Lam Adesina was sidelined in the process leading to the adoption of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, a decision that has drawn the state back leading to record indebtedness yet unsurpassed since the creation of the state in 1976.

“Why must outsiders insist on their stooges to rule us in Oyo State and why must we always accept their orders when what is left is a crumbling empire? For me , the masses of the state remain my motivators because they will insist that we build the state together for the benefit of all.”

Deontay Wilder branded Anthony Joshua a “coward” live on television, talkSPORT reports.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain alongside Tyson Fury to promote his  December  1 fight, the American was asked about the possibility of meeting British heavyweight Joshua in the ring.
Wilder, the WBC king, believes the Joshua camp don’t really want the fight.
“Hey Joshua, me and Fury are about to get this thing going on, baby,” he said looking down the camera. “We’re about to see who the biggest and the baddest in the world, one champion, one face, one name, something you were too much of a coward to do in your own country.

“You were a coward and you know this, your whole team know this. You said different things over and over. You manipulate, you’re compulsive liars.

“The audience put their hard-earned money into this, this is an emotional sport. Enough is enough. Joshua had a career plan and Deontay Wilder wasn’t in it from the start.”

According to a Punch Metro report, the Kogi State Polytechnic community was thrown into mourning on Monday after one of its lecturers, Mr Yakubu  Nataala, slumped and died at his residence in Lokoja, Kogi State.
It was gathered that the residents of the area speculated that the late Nataala might have died due to his frustration over the non-payment of his salaries.
Punch Metro reports on Monday that the lecturer received his salary last in July 2017.
According to sources, his inability to meet up with his financial needs had been a source of concern to him.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Luke Tijan, debunked residents’ speculations.
The institution’s spokesman told Punch Metro that the lecturer, who was earlier operated upon for ruptured appendicitis, died from complication arising from the operation.
Tijani, however, confirmed that the deceased was among lecturers that had not received salaries for many months.
“Yesterday (Sunday), we lost one of our lecturers in the polytechnic. He was earlier operated upon for appendicitis. He was among some of the lecturers that had not been paid salaries due to the screening,” he said.

Despite the intervention of President Buhari in the Lagos politics, Tinubu has refused to back his godson, Governor Ambode for a second term.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said last night that his position on the candidates battling for the party’s governorship ticket remains.
Tinubu’s media adviser Tunde Rahman said last night in a statement on Tinubu’s meeting with the President in Abuja:
“Asiwaju Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande were invited by President Buhari and it turned out to be a good and productive meeting. Asiwaju was quite pleased to have conferred with the President who has always shown himself to be a committed party member and a true democrat.

“Just like the President, he is looking forward to a good and credible primary that is peaceful and free of rancor. As previously stated, Asiwaju plans to vote in this primary and his position regarding the relative merits of the candidates remains unchanged.”
In the race are incumbent Akinwunmi Ambode and former Commissioner Jide Sanwo-Olu. The primary election is today.
Asiwaju said of his choice in a statement on Monday: “I am encouraged by the presence of a candidate in this primary, who has served the state in senior positions in my administration, the Fashola administration and even in the current one. While possessing a wealth of experience and exposure, he is a young man endowed with superlative vision and commitment.

“Most importantly, he understands the importance of the blueprint for development. He esteems it as a reliable and well-conceived vehicle for the future development of the state. He also knows the value of reaching out and working with others in order to maximise development and provide people the best leadership possible. With people like him at the helm, the state will write the proper history for itself.”
In  377 wards across 20 local governments, members of the APC will vote today.
Every card-carrying member of the party is eligible.
There will be no ballot box and ballot paper. Party members will queue behind the posters of their preferred aspirant.
The mode of the primary is “open direct primary”, which involves open and physical counting of members on queue behind the posters of their chosen aspirants.
They will be accredited by 9a.m. Election will take place by 12 noon. Members will show their APC Identification Card. No white slip will be accepted,  Chairman Tunde Balogun said yesterday.
Posters of the two aspirants will be held by their agents. After accreditation, party members will queue behind them.
“They will be counted on the queue and recorded. After that, voting ends. The agents of aspirants will sign. Then, the results will be taken to the local governments, the final collation will be done at the state level,” Balogun told The Nation in an interview.
The chairman urged members to troop out to participate in the exercise.
He said the shadow poll will be very transparent and peaceful across the wards, urging members to maintain decorum as they participate in the exercise.”
Ambode is campaigning on continuity. Sanwo-Olu has promised an all-inclusve government –  if elected.
Chairman of the electoral panel former Cross River State Governor Clemant Ebri attributed logistics challenge to the shift of the poll from Monday till today.
He told Ambode when he visited the Government House in Alausa: “I also like to apologise for the delay; it had to be postponed as a result of logistics in Lagos, Imo and some other states because of the pressure and work load from the secretariat and other developments that have taken place.”
Raising the stakes on the shadow election, Ebri said: “Lagos is more like a decider and like they say, when Lagos sneezes the rest of the country catches cold.

“So, that is why we are very careful about what we are doing and the National Chairman asked me to send his best wishes to you and ask us to come and do the right thing to the satisfaction of all members.

“Moreso, the President of this country stands for transparency and detests corruption and, a situation where no one feels manipulated.

“The process we are laying out is such that will ensure and guarantee transparency and credibility. We have people of integrity in this panel.
Other members of the panel are: Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud Gumel as secretary; Mr Nze Chidi Duru; Chief Clever Egbeji, Sen. Clever Ikisikpo and Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe.
On the integrity of the members, Ebri said: “These are not rookies in politics; they are people who have been tested. You can see senators, former governors, former deputy governor, former member of the House of Representatives; so, this is a star-studded team.

“I can assure you that we have all the experience that you want and you can think about to conduct this exercise. We assure you of our sincerity and transparency and we seek your cooperation in providing a level-playing field.’
Ambode replied:  “I receive this election team as being acceptable and credible to me enough to discharge their civic responsibility to the best of their abilities and to also say that whatever it is that is the outcome of the primaries, your presence has also shown that this will be credible and this will be acceptable to me.”
“So, it is very clear to me, all I seek is credible primaries, transparent primaries and level playing ground that we will all be proud of at the end of the day for the outcome,” the governor said, adding:
“There were issues that we have raised that we are also trying to correct.

“The bottom line is this, we are family, we must not go into the elections divided because this is the very first time that our party is controlling the centre and also the state; that is what I want us to continue.

“The issues that I raised have been put in form of a letter which I will pass to the chairman and I believe the committee will look into it judiciously.

“And also I welcome the stakeholders meeting which will allow you feel the pulse of what is going on in the state.”
The panel’s members attended a stakeholders meeting at the Lagos State APC secretariat in Ogba last night to perfect the planning for the election.

The President of the Nigerian senate, Bukola Saraki, has explained why he was absent at the Independence Day parade.
Bukola Saraki
Saraki has explained that he was absent at the Independence Day parade because he was out of Abuja attending to other important political assignments as an aspirant to clinch the presidential ticket of PDP, ahead of its primaries, weekend.
According to Vanguard, he also said in his home state, Kwara, the gubernatorial primary election took place yesterday and required his presence.
Special Adviser to Saraki on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, who spoke on his behalf, said his principal was unavoidably absent at the parade ground because he would also meet with Kogi delegates to the national convention of the PDP.
According to him, these are two very important political assignments that required the attention of the Senate President.
Olaniyonu said: “The Senate President and a frontline presidential aspirant on the platform of the PDP is currently not in Abuja, he is at the moment in his home state, Kwara.
"The governorship primary is holding today (yesterday) in Kwara and he must be present and after that, he will be holding a meeting with Kogi State delegates to the PDP National Convention. These are two very important assignments that require his attention.”
Spokesperson of  Speaker of the House of Representatives, Turaki Hassan, said he had no idea if his boss was invited to the event or why he was not present at the ceremony.
“Actually, I am out of Abuja and I don’t know what is happening there,” he said.

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos state is facing serious fight as the party is finding it difficult to produce its Governorship candidate in the state.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode
The Electoral Committee of the Lagos APC governorship primary and stakeholders in the state chapter, on Monday came out of a meeting without agreeing on the pattern to adopt for the election on Tuesday.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa made the disclosure to newsmen on Monday, after a meeting between the committee and state party stakeholders in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Clement Ebri, led his team to the meeting which was also attended by the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, the state party chairman, Alhaji Tunde Balogun and other party officials.
Obasa said that the disagreement stemmed from the insistence that the committee wanted the use of ballot papers for the primary as against the choice of open direct primary by the state stakeholders.
He said stakeholders in the state rejected the use of ballot papers, contending that it was not possible to train members on its use before the election.
Obasa said since the open direct primary system, where members queue behind their preferred aspirants was successfully used in the presidential primary in the state, it would also be suitable for the governorship primary.
“The meeting was held between members of the state House of Assembly and other stakeholders with the committee, and we were briefed about the coming primaries in the state.

“They told us that the directive from Abuja was that they should use ballot papers for the election.

“But we as stakeholders have rejected the idea because we have earlier informed our members on this.

“So, our consideration at the meeting was that if they aim to adopt the use of ballot papers, there is no time to train officials and party members on the new strategy the primary would follow.

“We told them that here in Lagos, we stand for open direct primary.

“We also told them that the presidential primary in the state was conducted in the same format.

“They then told us the outcome of the meeting will be sent to Abuja and response would be conveyed to us.

“I am not sure what the outcome will be, but I believe they will yield to our stand,” he said.
Asked if both parties would agree before the primary, the speaker said he was not sure.
He, however, expressed the optimism that the primary would hold as scheduled.
On the primary held in some parts of the state, Obasa said the results would be cancelled.
He, however, said that the election held because party members were ready to participate in the process.
Ebri, in his brief remarks, assured that the primary would hold as scheduled.
He said the committee interacted with stakeholders on the ways to ensure the process was credible.
“We discussed the basic principles of the guidelines for the primary.

“The primary will hold tomorrow. For you to participate in the primary, you have to be a member of the party, and you have to have your membership card, and your name must be on the register.

“If you don’t have a membership card and you have a slip, and your name is on the register, you will vote ” he said.
The Lagos Chairman of APC, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, who also spoke with newsmen late Monday, assured that the primary would finally hold tomorrow.
He said the party had concluded all arrangements to ensure its successful conduct.
Balogun said the format would be option A4, where voters queue behind the photographs of their preferred aspirants.
He said that members with the party ID card will be allowed to vote .
Accreditation starts by 9 and ends by noon, while voting starts immediately after.
The incumbent governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode will slug it out at the primary with Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, a former commissioner in the state.
Sanwo-Olu is going into the primary with endorsement by leading members of the party, which Ambode claims is an unfair advantage.
Ambode had urged the National Electoral Committee to ensure fairness by conducting a credible primary.
The primary, earlier scheduled for Monday, was shifted till Tuesday.
