The PDP presidential flagbearer also commented on their insistence that the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, leaves the position.

 Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria has reacted after some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decided to pull out of the 2023 campaign.

The PDP presidential flagbearer also commented on their insistence that the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, leaves the position

Atiku said he was surprised by their withdrawal because apart from the Rivers chapter, all other states submitted names of people who they wanted in the Presidential Campaign Council.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Wazirin Adamawa noted that the decision of Ayu to resign from office is personal, and neither he nor anyone else can make that decision.

“As a committed democrat and firm believer in the rule of law and democratic tenets, and our party being one set up, organized and regulated by law and our constitution, it is my absolute belief that everything that we do in our party must be done in accordance with, and conformity to, the law and our constitution.

“If Dr. Ayu is to be removed from office, it must be done in accordance with the laws that set out the basis for such removal. In any event, you will all recall that the very body that is empowered by law to initiate this removal from office, has already passed a vote of confidence in him.

“Now, our nation is currently in the throes of a multidimensional crisis encompassing insecurity, economic meltdown, disunity and mutual mistrust and educational dislocations, to mention a few.

“I have a plan to address these issues and I have, graciously, been given the ticket to lead our great party in next year’s presidential elections, with the singular mandate to come and lead the efforts to cure these ills.

“It is in this light that I have reached out to every single member of our great party to join me in the massive undertaking required to reset the ship of state and help rebuild our country.

“And it is my fervent hope and prayer that every man and woman of goodwill will join hands with us to help rebuild and reposition our beloved country.”

Atiku urged PDP members that have stated their resolve to withdraw from the Presidential Campaign Council to rethink and retrace their steps.

“The above notwithstanding and for the sake of our country, our children, and those yet unborn, we must not, for one minute, shirk our responsibilities to rebuild this beloved country of ours.

“Accordingly, we must forge on with the task and the mandate that we have been bestowed with. It is time, therefore, to move on with the formidable tasks of nation building ahead of us”, his statement added.

The spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign, in an interview with Daily Trust, noted that the PDP defeated Tinubu in his ancestral home (Osun State).

The spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign, Dino Melaye has boasted that the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in Lagos State.

Melaye made the claim in an interview with Daily Trust.

He urged people to take their minds back how the PDP defeated Tinubu in his ancestral home (Osun State).

The victory of the PDP saw Tinubu’s cousin who is the Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola defeated.
Melaye further stated that if the election is held in Lagos today, PDP will win the election.

The former lawmaker noted that Atiku was widely received in Lagos during his visit to the state.

Melaye said that Nigerians want his principal, adding that he will win the 2023 presidential election.

The ex-legislator,  while speaking in the interview, said, “the ancestral home of Tinubu, he was defeated by the PDP which removed his first cousin as governor.

“If the election is conducted in Lagos today PDP will win the election, Atiku will defeat Tinubu, Atiku was in Lagos two days ago, and he was received everywhere he goes. The people want him and he is going to win the election.”

The Former Governor said IPOB’s order has negatively affected the economy and social life in the southeast.

Nnamani

Chimaroke Nnamani

The Senator representing Enugu East, Chimaroke Nnamani has lamented about the IPOB sit-at-home order observed in southeast states on Mondays, stating that it is against the interest of Igbos.

The Former Governor of Enugu state in a statement released on Sunday September 12, said IPOB’s order has negatively affected the economy and social life in the south-east.

Nnamani stated that in the struggle for equity and justice in the Nigerian federation, Igbos cannot inadvertently inflict more injuries on themselves with the sit-at-home order.

The statement read;

"The Igbo character is defined by hard work, and that the sit-at-home order is antithetical to this trait and a betrayal of Igbo interest.

“Most of our people live on daily income. Think of the market women who depend on daily earnings to feed their families. Think of students writing external examinations being denied access to the venues. How does enslaving our people, denial of means of livelihood, add value to our quest for equity and justice?

“If others reject us, should we also reject ourselves?

“It stands to reason that this sit-at-home cannot be a way forward. We cannot abandon ourselves.

“In our struggle for equity and justice in the Nigerian federation, we cannot inadvertently inflict more injuries on ourselves by this sit-at-home order.”

The governor maintained that banks that failed to open on such days would be sealed for a week.

Gov Obiano

Gov Willie Obiano

Following the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra in southeastern states, Anambra state Governor, Willie Obiano has threatened to seal banks and punish market and motor-park leaders who stay at home on Mondays.

He directed banks, markets and motor parks in the state to be in operation on Monday.

The governor, who said the sit-at-home compliance adversely affected the Gross Domestic Product and the general economy of the state, maintained that banks that failed to open on such days would be sealed for a week, adding that if such banks refused to open subsequently, they would be permanently closed.

Will addressing transport leaders at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, on Sunday the governor cautioned against further adherence to the order which he said had become inimical to the state.

He said, “I urged the commuters to feel free to ply their usual routes across the state on Monday, whether they ride or drive motorcycles, keke, shuttle, buses.

“If markets don’t open, I will sack the leadership of the market. If the market and park leaders don’t comply, their leadership will be changed within two weeks.”

A Peoples Democratic Party official has revealed plans by the party to zone the 2023 presidency to the north.

PDP

It has been reported that the main opposition party in NIgeria, the Peoples Democratic Party is planning to zone the 2023 presidency to the north, according to a report by Daily Trust.

Daily Trust who spoke with a PDP official at the weekend quoted the official as saying that the National Executive Committee (NEC) will finally decide the zoning formula for the presidency and the National Working Committee (NWC) offices at a meeting slated for September 9.

According to the official, the party is also planning to cede the national chairmanship position of the party to the Southern part of the country.

He stated the party made the decision during its 92nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its headquarters in Abuja at the weekend.

The official, however, revealed that the party will hold its elective national convention on October 30 and 31 which would throw up a new crop of NWC.

He stated that the date is sacrosanct and nothing can change the date and venue of the convention, adding that the new NWC members would ratify the zoning of 2023 political offices.

Some of the aspirants believed to be contesting for the party’s presidential ticket are; former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

Other likely aspirants are former Governors of Jigawa and Kano States, Sule Lamido and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; among others.

Recall that the PDP had announced that its forthcoming National Convention will hold in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This was part of the decisions reached at the party’s 92nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Saturday, 28th August, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan confirmed.

According to Ologbondiyan on Saturday, the NEC will still meet on September 9th to ratify appointments into the various committees for the convention.

Oshiomhole who stated that his objective was achieved added that he has no regrets despite his removal from office.

Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that he joined the ruling party to form an alternative platform capable of kicking PDP out of power.

Oshiomhole who stated that his objective was achieved added that he has no regrets in spite of his removal from office.

The former APC National Chairman said he was still an active member of the party.

He also expressed optimism that Nigeria would hold a hitch-free general election in 2023.

“ I accepted what happened in good faith and I remain committed to doing whatever I can to support the party.

“Am still active in all APC activities and I don’t think that I needed to be a chairman to be of relevance.

“I didn’t join the party to become chairman, I joined in order to form an alternative platform capable of kicking PDP out of power and that objective was achieved.

“It doesn’t matter the way things have gone. The primary purpose was not for me to be APC chairman,”
NAN quoted Oshiomhole as saying.

Obasanjo added that though many people are enemies of Nigeria, they will not win over those who are friends of Nigeria.

OBJ

Olusegun Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for Nigerians to make the country work rather than calling for its disintegration.

Obasanjo who spoke at the book launch and 85th birthday of Sunday Mbang, prelate emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), in Lagos on Friday August 27, said the cost for Nigeria to cease existing is much more than the cost for us to make Nigeria to continue to exist.

Obasanjo added that though there are many people both high and low who can be described as enemies of Nigeria, they will not win over those who are friends of Nigeria.

He said;

“We are here to honour somebody we should honour, and learn from him (Mbang), to show that we genuinely love and appreciate him for the service he has rendered to the Christian community in this country and world over. And to assure him that whatever happens, we will continue to work for unity, peace, security and progress of this country.

“I know that these are things that are dear to his heart. We want to assure you that Nigeria will continue to exist, because the cost for Nigeria not to continue to exist is much more than the cost for us to make Nigeria to continue to exist.

“There are many people — high and low — who can be described as enemies of Nigeria, but they will not win over those who are friends of Nigeria.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria alleged that there are attempts to hijack its leadership and destabilise the association.

CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has lamented about the persecution of Christians in the Northern region of the country.

CAN’s Assistant General Secretary and Chairman of CAN’s anniversary celebration committee, Elder Biodun Sanyaolu who spoke at the association's 45th anniversary in Abuja, alleged that there are attempts to hijack its leadership and destabilise the association.

Stressing that the country is under the siege of “external forces” including Boko Haram and the Islamic State West African Province terrorists, Sanyaolu added that while Christians are allegedly being persecuted by being denied promotion and appointments, churches are allegedly being denied certificates of occupancy in many Northern states and many public schools have removed Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) from their curriculum.

He said;

“Since, the Association came on board on August 27, 1976, it has been consistent in standing against evil in the land.

“But today it is regrettable that there is a siege on the Church which all began with the killings and burning of churches in some states in the North at the emergence of Boko Haram terrorists. Their primary targets, according to their declaration, were Christians and Muslims who stand in their way.

“Our members are being persecuted because of their faith. Some were denied their rights like promotion and appointments. Churches were denied certificates of occupancy in many states in the North while many public schools have removed Christian Religious Knowledge from their curriculum.

“It is also reprehensible that the security architecture of the country has been compromised. Some external forces are making futile attempts to hijack the Association. But we cannot lose our focus.”

Sanyaolu also said that in spite of all these,  CAN had a reason to thank God. He added;

“While we mark our 45th anniversary today, we have declared three days, 24 – 26 September to celebrate God’s goodness and faithfulness.

“However, tomorrow is for fasting and prayers nationwide against the menace of insecurity, economic hardships, erosion of moral values and we shall ask God for forgiveness and mercy."

Governor Umahi of Ebonyi state has denied ever collecting money from FG for ranching.

Dave Umahi
Governor Dave Umahi

Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has accused Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu of lying that the state collected N6 billion for ranching.

Reacting on Thursday, Umahi denied the claim by Garba Shehu.

Umahi made this known in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Francis Nwaze.

He said, “We have received the news making the rounds that Ebonyi State is among the States in the Federation that has received the sum of 6 billion naira each for ranching as attributed to the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu.

“That Ebonyi State Government never at any time received any money for ranching in the State and will not receive any money for the same purpose as there is no available land for ranching in the state.

“That should any Ebonyian opt to engage in personal ranching, Ebonyians should see such venture as a personal decision of such person who must use his/her land for the purpose.

“This is because Ebonyi State Government has continued to maintain that there is no land for ranching in the state and it is not about reneging on that decision,” he said.

But in reaction to the governor’s claims, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State chapter led by Elder Fred Udeogu berated the governor for allegedly collecting money to implement ranching in the state as against the wishes of the citizens.

“Ebonyi State was mentioned as the only southern state to have received a quarter of the said N24 billion, being N6 billion for ranching.

“We are in shock that such a large sum of money was given to the State and no one knew about it and we are now wondering if it was meant for the development of a private ranch owned by those who received the money?

“We call on the government to immediately make full disclosure on this ranching fund given for public good. We need to ensure that cattle are no longer seen in the public and in the farms of our people – this will settle the clashes that have taken lives needlessly.

“We are eternally committed to do justice for the good people of Ebonyi State and will not allow this issue, together with many others, to be swept under the proverbial carpet” the party stated.

The two governors among other discussions reportedly touched on political events in the country and the clamour for the South-West presidency in 2023 as well as the cementing of the emergence of Tinubu.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Lagos State Governor, has received Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi, in London, United Kingdom, where he is currently recuperating.

SaharaReporters had reported that the APC leader underwent two surgeries within a month.

The two governors among other discussions reportedly touched on political events in the country and the clamour for the South-West presidency in 2023 as well as the cementing of the emergence of Tinubu.

The duo were captured in a trending picture on Wednesday with Tinubu in London on a purported solidarity visit.

Asides Fayemi and Akeredolu, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tinubu’s godson, had first visited the APC National Leader in July.

President Muhammadu Buhari also made a surprise visit to Tinubu in London where the former governor was seen leaning on a walking stick.

Also, a former National Legal Adviser of the APC, Dr. Muiz Banire visited the former governor of Lagos to express solidarity with him and to wish him quick recovery.

SaharaReporters had earlier in the month reported that Tinubu underwent a knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, US.

The APC chieftain, it had been learnt, left the US for the United Kingdom on crutches, a few days after the surgery.

Sources close to Tinubu told SaharaReporters that he wanted the surgery in Paris, France but changed his plan over rumours of his death.

“Tinubu had his second surgery at John Hopkins University in Maryland recently. He was accompanied by a popular Nigerian doctor in Chicago. He had wanted the surgery in Paris but when rumour was rife about his death, he hurriedly left for Nigeria and went to John Hopkins,” one of the sources had said.

"He left the US for the UK on crutches," another source had revealed.

SaharaReporters had on July 31 reported that Tinubu, who had had several medical trips this year alone, had a surgery about two weeks earlier and could be billed for another one.

The APC National Leader has been off official and party functions in the country for a while, amidst talks that he is being positioned for the 2023 presidency to succeed the incumbent repressive regime of Buhari.

“Tinubu is hospitalised in Maryland, US. His health is failing. He couldn’t participate in launching his Arewa library, and he couldn’t participate in the Local Government Area elections last week. He could not attend today’s APC congress due to health reasons. He had a surgery last week,” an authoritative source had disclosed to SaharaReporters.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been tackled by a Coalition of 52 Northern Groups.

Muhammadu Buhari
Muhammadu Buhari

The Coalition of 52 Northern Groups, CNG has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari.

This comes after bandits attacked the Nigerian Defence Academy killing at least two officers.

The group called out Buhari, saying that Nigeria has failed under him with the state of insecurity in the country.

The groups based their position on the alleged failure of government to project authority in the vital area of providing security of lives and properties.

The coalition’s national spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, made the position of the 52 Northern groups known in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

“The effect of the apparent erosion of legitimate authority to make collective decisions on such serious matters as national security despite the more than N5trn said to have been invested and another 1billion put in the purchase of arms,  has invariably raised serious questions of credibility and probity against the administration,” CNG said.

This apparent loss of control by government, the CNG said, has given rise to widespread corruption allegations, and escalating criminality, rampant intervention of  non-state actors with the attendant sharp economic decline, proliferation of refugee settlements and the involuntary movement of populations, which are key indicators of state failure.

“Daily occurrences have shown clearly that the federal and state governments are unable to perform the two fundamental functions of projecting authority over territory particularly in the North, as well as unable to fulfill the tasks required to control people and resources and can therefore provide only minimal public services with feeble and flawed institutions.

“Apparently, the federal and most northern states executives barely function today, while the legislature, judiciary, bureaucracy, and security forces have lost their capacity and professional independence thereby creating a huge vacuum in the political will and capacity of government which armed criminals, bandits, kidnappers and other assortments of violent non-state actors exploit with ease.

“The latest compromise of such important national security architecture as the NDA at a time when government officials were arrogantly floating unprecedented flamboyance at a wedding in Kano and Abuja is certainly a serious cause for concern in an already agitated nation suffering from crumbling security situation, faltering utility supplies and educational and health facilities, and deteriorating basic human-development indicators, such as mounting poverty and literacy rates,” the CNG warned.

The CNG observed that while effective governments provide core guarantees to its citizens in the three interrelated realms of security, economics, and politics, the current Nigerian administration  has assumed the reputation of the most insensitive in the nation’s history with the level of waste and impunity exhibited at the wedding of the president’s son in Kano.

Taking a swipe specifically at the  current National Assembly, CNG said it has failed to formulate or oversee the implementation of credible public policies to effectively deal with national security issues, build infrastructure and deliver services or effective and equitable economic policies.

“In addition, beyond inconsiderate approvals for the amassing of crippling debts at the expense of the future of the nation, the 9th Assembly has proved it cannot legislate for the representation and political empowerment of Nigerian citizens or protect civil liberties and fundamental human rights.

“The CNG hereby unhesitatingly pass a vote of no confidence on the entire members of the 9th National Assembly as having failed the nation in the vital area of providing security of lives and properties.”

He stated that the order did not work in his state because only a constituted authority like his government can give order on when people can stay away from their work or businesses and they will obey.

Gov Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma has stated that the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was not observed in Imo state.

Addressing State House correspondents after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday August 25, the Governor stated that IPOB's sit-at-home order did not work in his state because only a constituted authority like his government can give order on when people can stay away from their work or businesses and they will obey.

Uzodinma added that because people in the state did not obey IPOB’s orders, it made normal activities to flourish in the state.

He said;

“Even the people on their own called off the sit-at-home order. In Imo State, it is not being observed. People are doing their businesses.

“Most people in Imo are business men and women who depend on their daily activities and income to feed their families. So, they cannot afford to sit at home idle and allow hunger to ravage the state.”

The presidency warned Governor Ortom to stop playing the cards of ethnicity and religion.

Samuel Ortom
Samuel Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has been attacked by the presidency.

In a statement on Wednesday, the presidency accused Ortom of being an unprincipled man who is only motivated by the lust for personal gains, the presidency has declared.

This is in a response to recent attacks by the Governor against President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration.

Below is the full text of the statement.

“Governor Samuel Ortom has few political principles. We can see this from the fact that he has changed political party five times during his undistinguished career.”

“Every time he feels the wind may be blowing in a certain direction, he follows it.”

“Unfortunately, for the good citizens of Benue State, the most dangerous direction he blows in today is that of sectarianism and ethnicity.”

“In an attempt to boost his sinking political fortunes, Ortom takes the cheapest and lowest route possible by playing on ethnic themes – and in doing so knowingly causes deaths of innocent Nigerians by inciting farmers against herders, and Christians against Muslims.”

“Specifically, Ortom stirs up hatred by targeting one single ethnic group in Nigeria – using language reminiscent of the Rwandan genocide.”

“As was the case in Rwanda where the then Hutu leaders of the country incited their countrymen against each other, claiming there was a “secret Tutsi agenda” over the Hutu, Ortom claims there is a “secret Fulanization agenda” over other ethnic groups in his state and in Nigeria.”

“This is a copy of the language of Hutu Power – which falsely, and intentionally, accused the Rwandan Tutsi of plans to dominate the country.”

“This wicked talk is aimed at giving cover to his so-called “policy” on the Ranches Establishment Law – which in reality is purely an act of denial of the law – intended to withhold rights and freedoms from one ethnic group alone, whilst inciting race hatred against them amongst all others.”

“These are not the actions of a man who should be trusted with running public services or holding public office.”

“For the governor of a major state in Nigeria to be politically driven by ethnic hatred is a stain on our country.”

“The good, and fair-minded people of Benue State deserve more than this, and we look forward to the next elections when they have an opportunity to restore its greatness.”

Nigeria's president is planning to suspend Channels TV over an interview that didn't go down well with him.

Omoyele Sowore
Omoyele Sowore

An alleged plan by President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend Channels Television has been reportedly uncovered by Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore also said that the federal government is planning to arrest some journalists over their recent interview which did not sit well with the government.

The publisher of SaharaReporters, in a post on his Facebook account, noted that President Buhari gave the directive following the interview of Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom and Rtd. Naval Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi.

The human rights activist wrote, “Criminal Muhammadu Buhari reportedly orders NBC to go after Channels Television licence to be suspended by the Federal Govt of Nigeria over the interview of Gov. Ortom and Retired Naval Commodore Kunle Olawunmi.”

“Reportedly Ordered for the arrest of Chamberlain Usoh, Co-Host on Sunrise Daily and his colleagues, anchors of the program at Channels.”

“They are to be brought to Abuja tomorrow! Let’s be vigilant and stand with these journalists. Muhammadu Buhari will be defeated and ultimately disgraced out of power.”

A source that spoke with SaharaReporters said, “Buhari attacks Section 39(1) of the constitution – the government plans to shut Channels TV and arrest pressmen. In a dangerous regression to Decree Number 4, the Buhari Government, using NBC, has ordered the closure of Channels TV and also ordered the arrest of the station’s journalists for interviewing Governor Ortom who brought up the story of Buhari Fulanisation agenda, and a guest who revealed that people who are high up in the Buhari government are sponsors of Boko Haram.”

“The government did not refute facts advanced by the guest, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi (retd.), that the government has the names of sponsors linked to the conviction of Boko Haram sponsors in the United Arab Emirates.”

“Rather than provide a concrete refutation, the government is trying to gag the media by attacking the constitutional rights of the media and the journalist to practice their profession unfettered.”

Another source said, “Channels TV license is to be suspended by the Federal Government over the interview of Governor Ortom and retired naval personnel. There is also an order for the arrest of journalist Chamberlain and his colleagues, who are anchors of the program.”

“They are to be brought to Abuja tomorrow.”

Shehu made fun of Ortom for leaving the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party.

Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri

An ex-presidential aide, Reno Omokri has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari and his aide, Garba Shehu for condemning Samuel Ortom.

Shehu made fun of Ortom for leaving the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ortom had condemned Buhari over his plan to review grazing routes in the country.

The presidency in a statement released through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu also accused Ortom of inciting ethnic hatred in the country.

The presidential spokesman further stated that the Benue State Governor had changed political parties five times, hence he has no right to condemn president Buhari.

Reno in his reaction to the development said President Buhari has also changed political parties four times, hence he should not condemned someone for the same sin.

Reno in a post on his Facebook account wrote, “The Presidency, through Garba Shehu, slammed Benue Governor, Sam Ortom, as a man who has changed parties five times. What about Buhari?

“From APP to ANPP, to CPC, to APC? Buhari has changed parties almost as much as Ortom. He is in his fourth party. What about Garba Shehu himself, who was once a PDP Spokesman? Now, the former PDP Spokesman is lambasting his former party. Does that make sense?

“Politicians like Buhari and Garba, should not throw stones! How can Buhari, who raised up Umar Ganduje (alias Gandollar) hands and asked Kano people to vote for him, accuse anyone else of not having principles?”

This comes after a Rivers State court ordered Secondus to stop parading himself as the national chairman or a member of the party.

Uche Secondus
Uche Secondus

The suspended National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus has called out Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

Secondus accused Wike of hijacking the party.

This comes after a Rivers State court ordered Secondus to stop parading himself as the national chairman or a member of the party.

Justice O. Gbasam of the State High Court sitting in Degema LGA said that the suspension remains pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

Reacting, the chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Olusegun Bamgbose said Wike has succeeded in kidnapping the PDP.

According to Bamgbose, the ruling has reduced the PDP to a regional party.

The presidential hopeful disclosed that the Rivers governor may be plotting to contest the 2023 presidency alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has succeeded in hijacking the party structure and thus become the most powerful member of the party as of today,” he told Daily Post.

“It’s most unfortunate that one who was never a founding member of the party has now taken over the structure of the party. One wonders why Atiku Abubakar should pay homage to Wike in order to pave the way for him to clinch the party’s ticket.

“One won’t be surprised if Wike will eventually be running mate to Atiku come 2023. PDP has lost its opposition status and NNPP will certainly take over.”

According to the lawyer, the main opposition party had not shown it is capable of wrestling power from the APC in 2023.

He stated that the PDP has now become a limited liability company whereby “Governor Wike has emerged as Managing Director of the PLC. This is sad, party-turned-company.”

“Atiku’s intervention is too late in the day. Those visualizing PDP to take over from APC come 2023 should be seen as daydreamers,” Bamgbose said.

“They are very far from reality. Nigerians must switch over to New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP. We are very confident that it is the best alternative to take over power from APC come 2023.”
