The implementation of 7.5 per cent tax on imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas has resulted in more suffering for Nigerians.

Nigerians will spend more money on cooking gas after the federal government went ahead to implement a 7.5 per cent tax on imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly called cooking gas.

As a result, the cost of the commodity leapt by over 100 per cent within a period of eight months.

According to Punch, it was gathered on Sunday that the government implemented the VAT on LPG imports about three weeks ago and some dealers were also mandated to pay the tax for commodities imported several months ago.

Operators told Punch that Nigeria imports about 70 per cent of the commodity, while the rest was mainly supplied by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas company.

It was also gathered that the cost of a 12.5kg of cooking gas that sold for about N3,500 in December 2020 had jumped to as high as N6,800 in parts of Abuja.

A resident along the Lagos-Ibadan road said she bought the commodity on Sunday at N7,200 in Lagos, as dealers projected that the cost might hit N10,000 in December this year.

Operators stated the development had made small businesses and homes in rural and semi-urban areas to revert to firewood and charcoal, as the purchase of cooking gas had plunged in recent months.

The National Chairman, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association of Nigeria, Michael Umudu, said there were three factors that caused the surge in price.

He said, “There are three major factors to the hike in prices. Firstly, about 70 per cent of the gas we consume in Nigeria is imported and importers have to contend with the high cost of foreign exchange.

“Secondly, there is a rise in the price of petroleum products in the international market and because of that, the cost of LPG has equally gone up. So importers now pay more on imports.

“And thirdly, the government added VAT on imported LPG about three weeks ago. It (VAT) was 7.5 per cent of the cost of the commodity and this exacerbated the price hike of cooking gas in the past three weeks.”

Umudu stated that before the introduction of VAT, foreign exchange and cost of petroleum products in the international market had been the factors causing the rise in price.

“Around November/December last year, 12.5kg was sold at about N3,500, but in July it went up to around N5,500 and when VAT was introduced about three weeks ago, it now escalated to about N6,500 and above,” he stated.

Umudu added, “The price hike seems to be happening on a daily basis and nobody can tell when it will stop. There has been a lot of appeal to the government to find a way of persuading NLNG to increase its domestic supply so that the product can be affordable.

“NLNG supplies about 35 per cent of the gas we consume locally and that percentage is not adequate. And the gas sold by NLNG is even sold at international price and is priced in dollar not naira.”

On the cost of the commodity in metric tonnes, Umudu, replied, “20MT is now in the average of about N8m. And before VAT was introduced, the price of 20MT was around N6.8m to N7m, which was the highest price then.”

He noted that consequent to that, there has been an upsurge in the use of firewood and other alternative energy sources nowadays.

“If you come to Lagos, you will see heaps of firewood like groundnut pyramids. Many people who use LPG to run their small businesses cannot cope again because of the price. They are in crisis right now; some of them are now using firewood, others, charcoal,” he stated.

Umudu added, “Many people in the rural and semi-urban areas are dropping their cylinders. Those who find it difficult to get alternatives are actually going through a very hard time.”

Also speaking on the issue, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, Bassey Essien, said the cost of 12.5kg gas could hit N10,000 in December.

He said, “If by December they (government) don’t take time to address this surge, it (12.5kg) will be N10,000. We are not the one causing this, rather it is the government. We sell what we get.”

On what could be done, he replied, “The volume we produce in Nigeria is just about 40 per cent of the total consumption; the rest is imported. And you don’t have a forex window for these people to access to import gas.

“And secondly, you suddenly woke up and said you want to start imposing VAT on imported gas, which was removed several years back. And now, you didn’t even start it fresh, rather you said it is going to be in retrospect, starting from several months back.”

He added, “And you are imposing billions in taxes on gas imports, for instance, you ask one company to pay about N4bn as tax. Now if they pay that money, some other person needs to shoulder this cost.”

On what the government was doing about the development, the spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Garba-Deen Muhammad, said the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, had said the commodity was deregulated.

Muhammed, who served as the media aide to Sylva before switching to become NNPC spokesperson recently, said, “The minister answered this question during his last press briefing two weeks ago.”

At the briefing, Sylva had said, “We are not in position to determine gas pricing because gas is not a regulated product. But, of course, we are also very concerned that prices are rising and so I am actually doing something about it in the interest of the ordinary Nigerian.

“I am calling some of the suppliers to discuss the reason for this hike.”

He added that the intervention was outside government role.

The founder of Citadel Global Community Church, Tunde Bakare has admitted tearing apart a book written by his colleague, Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church.

Pastor Bakare opened up on the reason why he tore the book.

According to him, he tore the book because it was full of scriptural errors.

He explained that the book which claimed that anointing oil is not a symbol of the Holy Spirit was erroneously written.

The clergyman, who spoke on TVC’s ‘The Big Talk’, however, said he has nothing against Bishop Oyedepo.

Bakare said he only stands for the truth.

“There is a difference between issues and persons.

“I have nothing personal against any man of God including Oyedepo, but I will always defend the truth that I know, and I will always make it plain.

“How can someone say the anointing oil is not a symbol of the Holy Spirit? It is the release of God in the bottle. If it is told to a few people, it is okay.

“If anointing oil is the Holy Spirit, then Jesus is a lamb walking on four legs. They are symbols,” he said.

In what will come across as a rather startling development, night security men attached to the popular Shoprite at City Mall, Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos, may have been fooled after some thieves removed the roof of the mall, gained entrance, looted some items and escaped.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 12th August, 2021, when the management of the mall came to work only to discover that some items were missing before they realised that the roof was removed at night.

When the operation was going on, the night guards were awake but did not know when the roof was removed. So the thieves gained entrance into the mall, stole some items including Hennessey, Lu-tech machine, perfumes among other things and escaped.

The matter was reported to the Police at Alausa Division, who moved into action and later arrested two suspects, namely Peace Kelvin, 28 and Sulaimon Taiwo, 26 and detained at the Station for interrogation.

After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

They pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, asked the Court to give a date for trial since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. O.D. Njoku, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum while the matter was adjourned to 16th September, 2021, for mention.

However, the defendants were remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.

A mother has been left in shock after giving birth to a baby with genetic disorder called, Progeria.

The mother and her baby with progeria
The mother and her baby with progeria

A 20-year-old woman has been left disturbed after giving birth to a baby that looks like an old woman.

The South African woman gave birth to the baby with a rare condition called progeria, a progressive genetic disorder that causes children to age rapidly.

Progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is caused by a mutation (change) in the lamin (LMNA) gene.

The woman from Libode in Eastern Cape, delivered the baby girl at home two months ago. Local mid-wives including the baby's grandmother noticed that she exhibited signs that were different from most babies. Her hands are deformed and her skin was wrinkled. She is currently in hospital with her mother.

"When she was in labour we called an ambulance but it took long to come. So she gave birth here at home. But the delivery got complicated and we hired a van to take her to hospital," the grandmother said.

"We were told there that she’s disabled. I noticed during her birth that there was something strange with her. She did not cry and she was breathing through the ribs. I was shocked because that was strange. Now I hear that people are calling her names. That hurts a lot. If I had means, I would put all of them in jail,” she added.

Photos of the baby have been circulating on social media. Some users likened her to an ape, causing outrage and anger among those who sympathize with her.

Director of children’s rights organisation, Khula Community Development Project, Petros Majola, believes communities need to be educated about this condition.

"Communities must know that the mother did not apply for her baby to be like this. In a woman’s womb, there is no construction or factory that builds babies. People need to embrace this child for who she is,” says Majola.

Medical experts say the genetic condition occurs randomly and is not inherited. Doctor Martha Mayer, a neonatologist at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital says the syndrome is very rare.

"Progeria is a genetic condition that makes the baby age faster. Another thing is that these children also develop heart diseases and their life span is very short. We have never had a child with that condition in this hospital. It is very rare, maybe it happens to one in four or eight million people.”

Progeria affects about 1 in 20 million people around the world and there is no known cure.

Ontlametse Phalatse, who captured the hearts of many South Africans for her brave battle with progeria, died at the age of 18 in 2017.

Some Nigerians have taken to social media to call out Biggie over the eviction of Maria.

Maria
Maria

Angry Big Brother ‘Shine Ye Eye’ season six reality show viewers have stormed social media to register their annoyance following the eviction of Maria.

They put the blame on Biggie, accusing him of using Maria.

Recall that Maria and JMK, and a male housemate, Sammie were on Sunday evicted from the ‘shine ya eye’ edition of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show.

Her eviction came as a shock to both the fans and her fellow housemates as no one saw it coming.

Reacting to the eviction, fans took to different social media platforms to slam Big Brother, revealing he used her to promote the show and then dumped her. Others, however, did not understand why Big Brother wanted her out of the show.

Recall also that Maria had won the head of house task the previous week which amounted to nothing because no one was evicted last week.

See some of the reactions below;

@i_am_dagos wrote “Shame on Biggie for using Maria to promote the show and dump her”

@RebeccaKargboR1 wrote “Big Brother NAIJA production used and dumped Maria”

@kolawole401 wrote “That’s not the point. Production team milked content out of her”

@ife_44 wrote “The organizers wanted Maria out !! There’s no better way of saying it or looking at it .. Her sheep was tossed to the lions gate deliberately!!!”

@CliffeWola wrote “@SirUTI The production had to sacrifice Maria to make the show unpredictable. The plan was put in place 3 weeks ago. The next to be sacrificed is Pere. No matter what they do, the end game is so predictable. Top 5 WM, LR, Cross, Saskay, Angel.”

@thee_ncube wrote “I blame biggie he made the housemates hate her and rewarded her with abeg naira what for she deserved immunity”

He said this on Sunday night after the eviction show when Yousef jokingly called Saga a ‘married man’ because of his closeness with Nini.

Saga

Saga, a Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, has revealed that his relationship with Nini is complicated because the latter has a boyfriend outside the show.

He said this on Sunday night after the eviction show when Yousef jokingly called Saga a ‘married man’ because of his closeness with Nini.

Saga cautioned Yousef against calling him such and went further to tell him and other housemates present, that he is in a complicated relationship with Nini.

Speaking to Yousef, Saga said, “Let me advise you guys first. It’s not easy to talk about but she’s in complicated stuff. I’m talking about the ‘me and her stuff’.

“It’s okay to talk about it but there’s a line because her boyfriend is watching. That’s the thing. That’s why I’m very careful. I don’t want to push her into anything. That is the most important thing to her for now.

“It’s a serious relationship. So it’s understandable. Just be careful about the ‘whining’. You get what I’m saying. It’s technical. There’s a lot of things that we do not talk about and we know. It’s somehow.”

The Nini and Saga ‘ship’

Nini and Saga are undoubtedly one of the closest duos in the house and Saga had made it known that he loved her beyond friendship level.

However, their ‘ship’ is one of unrequited love because Nini refuses to agree that they are more than friends as she always claims that she has a boyfriend outside the house.

After a clash about their relationship on Thursday night, Nini had revealed why she gave Saga more attention than other guys in the house.

Recall that Maria, who was perceived to be strong in the game, was evicted during the live show on Sunday.

Leo DaSilva

Leo Dasilva, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, has commended the organizers of this year’s show for changing the voting system.

Leo said this while reacting to comments by fans of the show after Maria was evicted.

Recall that Maria, who was perceived to be strong in the game, was evicted during the live show on Sunday.

Some viewers were shocked and in disbelief.

Reacting, Leo said the new voting system will allow fans to determine the actual winner of the grand prize.

This year, only online vote is available and no SMS voting.

“Kudos to Big Brother Naija for this online voting. It allows the fans to actually decide the winner of the show and the faith of their favourites genuinely.

“This is the best upgrade the show has received.”

Nigerian media personality and host of Big Brother Naija: ‘The Buzz’, Toke Makinwa has reacted to yesterday's eviction.

Recall that JMK, Sammie and Maria got evicted on Sunday.

Makinwa while weighing in on some of the reactions trailing Maria’s eviction in a tweet said Maria’s fans voted for her but it was unfortunate she had to leave as Sunday’s live show was a triple eviction night.

While some fans claimed her attitude once she got nominated contributed to her eviction, others believe she does not have a huge fan base.

Makinwa in her post added that the game is getting closer to its end, and the people in the house has to be decongested.

She added that Maria played her game well, gave viewers taking points and will undoubtedly do well outside the house.

She wrote: “Maria’s fan base tried, it’s unfortunate that it was a triple eviction night, plus the game is getting closer and closer.

The house has to be decongested. Maria played her game well, she gave us talking points, and she’ll do well. Nobody loses, the platform has been given.”

Whitemoney made the revelation to Pere after he was saved during yesterday's eviction.

Whitemoney
Whitemoney

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Whitemoney has given fellow housemate, Pere a hint of the type of people voting for him.

According to Whitemoney, Pere’s fanbase is made up of more women.

Whitemoney said this while consoling Pere after Maria was evicted from the reality show on Sunday night.

“Maria is fine. She is a strong woman. Maria is one of the strongest women I know. She’s strong physically, spiritually and otherwise. Would you rather go home so that she stays?

“It’s now that your game in the house started. You are now a confirmed housemate. Before now, you were just here eating free food and wearing free clothes.

“Your fanbase is basically women. You have this thing …I don’t know how to explain it… that attracts women to you. So even if you are killing them they’ll still be coming to you.

“Keep playing your game and keep being you. That incident that happened between us boosted your fanbase. It was a 50-50 thing. So keep being Pere,” he said.

Maria’s eviction came as a surprise to both housemates and followers of the show.

“Although we call on everybody in the society to do the right thing, but we make the call on case by case basis.

“It is against the tenets of Islam to mount the podium and call out leaders. There are ways to caution a leader without criticizing him in public."

Drake and Kanye West

The childhood home of Kanye West in Chicago has reportedly been ‘vandalised’ by Drake fans.

As the rivalry between the two artists rolls on, photos surfaced this weekend of three different signs that appear to have been left on the front steps of the South Shore Chicago house that Kanye grew up in, which he recently bought and is reportedly in the process of renovating.

One sign promotes Drake’s forthcoming album, ‘Certified Lover Boy’, while another attacks Justin LaBoy, the media personality who has been promoting West’s forthcoming album, ‘Donda’.

The final sign, “45 44 Burnt Out”, references a recent collaboration between Drake and Trippie Redd, ‘Betrayal’, where Drake seemingly takes a swipe at West.

No real damage was done to the home whose address is widely public and doesn't seem to have any barricades or security around to keep nosy prowlers out.

It comes as the long-running beef between the two rappers recently flared up again. Following Drake’s collaboration with Trippie Redd, West responded to Drake in a group text between eight people, including Pusha T.

West wrote;

“I live for this. I’ve been fucked with by nerd ass jock n****s like you my whole life. You will never recover. I promise you."

Vundlani Mwandzule

Vundlani Mwandzule, a 25-year-old South African man, has alleged that his sugar mummy has been making life miserable after he called off their relationship.

According to Mwandzule, one time, he refused to have sex with her because he was tired, she threatened to cut his manhood with a razor blade.

Vundlani said he met the 42-year-old woman in 2020 just before South Africa went into lockdown.

"We met at a drinking place in River Park, on the outskirts of Alexandra township. We exchanged numbers and our relationship developed like wildfire during level five lockdown, and soon I started visiting her at her house in Lombardy near Edenvale,"
he told scrollaAfrica

He said every time he visited her, she made sure that she bought him a lot of booze and he got drunk.

"After the booze, it’s all about sex. All night long,” said Vundlani.

Vundlani recalled a situation where he refused to have sex with the said woman because he was tired, and she threatened to cut his manhood with a razorblade.

"I had to give her sex and a lot of it,
" he said.

Vundlani said his sugar mama had been taking him to expensive places and restaurants.

"Even if we have alcohol in the house, she would still take me out,” he said.

But now he says he's no longer interested in the relationship.

"I am tired. I don’t want her anymore,” he said, but she still wants him.

He said the lady now allegedly shows up unannounced at his place, saying she has spent a lot of money on him and threatening to hurt him.

Vundlani’s mother, Thandazile Tshikhathali, told Scrolla.Africa that her son’s sugar mama has made her life uncomfortable as well, adding that she has reported her to their community leader.

"She comes to my house and tells me I’m poor and I must accept that my son is in love with her. She tells me that she can buy my other children laptops and anything that they want because she has the money.”

Thandazile said that she and her son are considering getting a protection order against her.

The Scrolla.Africa team traced Cecilia (not her real name) who spoke to the team telephonically.

"Wow. I won’t talk about my personal life in the media. I have no comment,” she said.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Command, the theft of the children was executed by the housemaid, Precious Mmaduike.

Precious Mmaduike and the kids

Two kids who were stolen by their housemaid in Lagos state on 23 August 2021, have been rescued by the Edo state police command in Benin.

The operatives also arrested three suspects, Precious Mmaduike ‘F’ (21), Jane Osas ‘F’ (35) and John Obasu (45), in connection with the theft of the children.

The stolen kids, David Ibe ‘M’ (4 years) and Chizaram Ibe ‘F’ (2 years) were children of Mr. Phenasus Ibe, of Balogun Kuku Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos State.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Command, SP Kontongs Bello, the theft of the children was executed by Ibe’s housemaid, Precious Mmaduike.

It was gathered that on the fateful day, at about 8.45 am, mother of the children, gave them N500, to buy biscuit outside the compound in Lagos, in company of the housemaid.

But the children and the housemaid did not return.

All efforts in search of the children and the housemaid proved abortive, as her phone was switched off.

“That was when the father immediately reported the situation to Aguda Police Station, Lagos, where it was discovered that the last location of the housemaid before she switched off her mobile was in Benin city, Edo state.

“The complainant decided to come to the police in Edo state for assistance.

“Men of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of Edo State Police Command immediately commenced investigation.

“With the aid of the information gathered from the origin of the abduction and field assets, the abducted children were rescued on 26/08/2021, at about 1730hrs by the operatives of the Edo State Police Command, Benin City, in a very remote area at Upper Ekewan Road, Benin City with the housemaid and a woman she came to visit with the children."

The housemaid who met the woman on the internet claimed that, the two children belonged to her and they came to Benin city for visit.

But unknown to the woman, the children are not for her.

The woman had bought gifts for the children, who are currently with the police,”
 the statement said.

It was however gathered that while the police operatives were on their way to the State Command in Benin city with the rescued children, the suspects and two other children found in the house, the husband of the woman, one Joseph Obaze, raised alarm of kidnapping against the police operatives.

The alarm attracted a group of “unknown vigilante” members who blocked the road.

Even after the Police operatives identified themselves, the “unknown vigilante” group reportedly went ahead to attack the police operatives with all kinds of weapons, causing bodily injuries to some policemen.

The hoodlums later escaped before police reinforcement could arrive at the scene.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, assured that efforts are in place to apprehend the fleeing vigilante leader and his gang members that attacked the police operatives

He enjoined all law abiding members of the public to go about their lawful businesses, noting that the Command will not allow miscreants in the name of vigilante group to take over the public space.

Ogbadu enjoined the public to continue to provide useful information to the police about criminals and their activities, to help them achieve the mandate of protecting lives and properties.

The activist gave the warning in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 28, after Governor Godwin Obaseki said that residents without proof of COVID-19 vaccination would be barred from public facilities and large gatherings.

Obaseki, who made this known during the flag-off of the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination in Benin, said only those vaccinated would have access to public places and large gatherings.

He lamented the increasing cases of COVID-19 infections in the state, adding that the government’s efforts were geared towards mitigating the spike in the number of cases.

"With what we have seen so far, COVID-19 pandemic is here to stay. This is the third wave and there is nothing that points to the fact that other waves will not come. What we are likely to see is intermittent waves of this pandemic. We are not going to shut down Edo State but we will make sure we protect all Edo citizens,"
he stated.

“Therefore, I have come out with the following regulations, beginning from the second week of September 2021. Large gatherings as well as high traffic public and private places will only be accessed by persons who have proof of taking at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Such people will not be allowed to worship in churches and mosques. There will be no access to banking halls and event centers without proof of vaccination at the gates,” Mr Obaseki said.

The Governor said that adequate arrangements had been made with security agencies to prevent anybody without a vaccination card from accessing any of the public places.

He said the state was aiming at vaccinating 60 per cent of its population within the next one year.

According to the governor, Edo has so far collected 6,306 samples out of which 203 cases have been confirmed while four persons have died from the third wave

Niger State Govt Reunites 90 Tegina Islamic Students With Their Parents

The students of Salihu Tanko Islamic School, Tegina who regained freedom have met with the Niger state governor, who reunited them with their families.

While addressing the press, the governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, said a total of 91children and 2 passers-by were kidnapped out of which 92 regained their freedom but unfortunately one of the children died.

He appreciated the security operatives, his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rafi Local Government Chairman, and all those who contributed to the release of the abductees.

He expressed concern over the callous manner in which the bandits operate, adding that their activities are in no small measure discouraging parents from sending their children to school. The Governor however assured that criminals will be hunted down and be made to face the wrath of the law.

"This goes to show the sickness and madness in the heads of some people. Otherwise, I cannot explain or imagine why you should abduct an innocent 3-year-old child and keep him or her for over 80 days.

This has affected the morale and confidence in people and has made even parents think twice before they send their children to school.

However, I can assure you that we will do whatever it takes to bring them to justice. We have put in place all necessary measures to hunt down and prosecute those involved in this heinous act.'
' he said.

Governor Bello said the children have been medically examined and declared fit to join their families except for 4 of them who will require more medical attention.

The Islamic school pupils who were kidnapped on the 30th of May, 2021 were said to have arrived in Minna the state capital late last night.  The children were left to their fates in hostage for almost three months, where they were made to undergo various inhuman treatments, such as hunger, sicknesses, beatings among others, despite the ransoms paid by their parents.

victims

The victims

Students and staff of Salihu Islamic school, Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State arrived Minna, the State capital who were abducted by bandits have opened up on their unfortunate ordeal.

The children were left to their fates in hostage for almost three months, where they were made to undergo various inhuman treatments, such as hunger, sicknesses, beatings among others, despite the ransoms paid by their parents.

This is also as the state government which claimed it knows where they were kept maintained its no payment of ransom posture, until two days ago.

Narrating some of their ordeals, one of the victims, Musa claimed that the day they were kidnapped, they trekked for hours without food or water to drink.

“We trekked for days without food and water. We only rested a little when the bandits noticed that we were tired and afterward continued. And it was so difficult since we had to carry the little ones on the back as they could no longer walk because they were weak and tired before we finally got to the hideouts of the bandits in the forest.”

According to them, the bandits fed them with Indomie and some times beans on their hands, which was never enough to satisfy any of them.

”Since we got kidnapped, we never took our bath. We were fed with small amount of Indomie or beans on our hands. Some days, we stayed hungry as there was nothing to eat. We were kept together in one small room in the forest. Some times, we were beaten if we try to complain of hunger or ask questions. We thank God we are alive and reunited with our families.”

Some of the parents appeared very happy with tears of joy appreciated God for the safe release of their children.

Some who spoke to DAILY POST said they thank God for the safe return of their children, “We never prayed that this should happen again or to any parent. It was a painful and traumatic experience for all of us.”

One of the parents, name withheld described the 89 days his children stayed with the bandits as the most agonizing period of his life, especially not knowing if their children were alive or dead.

“Every day we wake up then was with pain. Some of us, parents as a result of this issue became hypertensive. But we thank God that the ramsons kept our children alive until they were rescued. Even though, we sold our valuables, we are happy our children returned back home alive.”

The Proprietor of Islamic school, Mallam Idris Umar and father of a deceased abducted kid said though, he was happy with the safe return of the pupils, he is pained by the inability to give his son a proper burial.

The deceased victim whose name was withheld is said to be between 8 and 9 years of age..

Umar whose five children were among the 91 children kidnapped told journalists in Minna, ” Though, I see the death of my child as the will of God, I would have been more fulfilled if the child had died at home. This would have given me the opportunity to give him a befitting burial. I thank Allah that the other three are alive and also other children that were kidnapped. Their continued stay with the Bandits was a traumatic experience for all of us”

”But despite all that happened, today everyone is happy over the release of the entire children. We thank God that all our pains and sufferings are over.”

Sharing a similar emotion, the Head Teacher of the Islamiya, Alhassan Ahmed expressed pains as well as joy over the release of the children, after a long stay in the hands of the bandits.

Though, he stated that ransoms were paid to secure the freedom of the abductees, parents have no regrets for whatever amount they paid to the bandits that assisted towards the safe release of their children alive.

”Except for the child that we lost, we thank Allah that all of them returned alive and well.”

However, Ahmed was tactical on the issue of ramsons paid saying, “on the issue of ransoms payment, I meant the ones gathered by the parents, it doesn’t doesn’t mean the state government.”
