The Federal Government has given a date to start naming and shaming people who refuse to pay their tax.
Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, says the Federal Government, will name and shame tax defaulters after the expiration of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS).

Adeosun disclosed this at an interactive session on the VAIDS programme on Thursday in Kaduna.

She said  that the Federal Government had the political will to prosecute tax evaders once the tax amnesty programme was over by March 31.

She urged the people to take advantage of the scheme and regularise their tax payments.

“The Federal Government has the political will and data to go after tax evaders who fail to take advantage of the tax amnesty programme.

“Many Nigerians cannot explain their lifestyles or match their lifestyles, assets and income with their tax payment.

“We will close VAIDS at the expiration of the programme on March 31, 2018. And once the programme is closed, we will name and shame and also prosecute tax evaders, since they refused to take advantage of the opportunity,” she said.

Adeosun reiterated that the government had data on individuals and companies that owed taxes.

She, however, stated that the data would not be used to witch hunt any person in the country.

She assured the public that the information they had acquired such as accounts, land and other assets through the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information with other countries would be used solely to collect taxes.

Adeosun said the automatic exchange of information had become necessary to combat tax evasion and protect the integrity of tax systems.

The VAIDS, according to her, has been strengthened by the data on financial accounts, property and trusts shared by other countries.

She advised offshore asset owners to utilise the VAIDS window to regularise their taxes before the end of the amnesty programme.

“The offshore tax shelter system is basically over.

“Those who have hidden money overseas are being exposed and whilst Nigerians can legally keep their money anywhere in the world, they must first pay any taxes due to the Nigerian Government.

“This is so that we can fund the needs of the masses and create jobs and wealth for our people,”she said.

Also, the state Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who disclosed that he declared his assets in 2017, commended the collaboration between the Federal and State Governments on tax.

He pledged to provide land ownership data to tax authorities at the Federal and State levels, as part of measures to bring more income earners and asset owners into the tax net.

The governor assured that the revenue from taxes would be judiciously used to improve the lives of the residents of the state through investment in infrastructure, primary health and education.

Similarly, Mr Babatunde Fowler, Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) reinforced the need for Nigerians to join hands with the Federal and State Governments to improve the standard of living through compliance with tax payment.

Dignitaries at the event include, Alhaji Idris Ahmed, Accountant General of the Federation; members of Kaduna State Executive Council, captains of industries and business owners.

Jay Z has overtaken P-Diddy to become the richest entertainer on the planet according to Forbes.
P-Diddy, Jay Z and Dr. Dre

Jay-Z, Diddy and Dre are not only the wealthiest hip-hop acts on the planet, but the richest American musicians of any genre.

Last June, when Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcomed twins to their family, they did what many couples do in the wake of a new arrival--move to a bigger home--on quite an epic scale. Over the next few months, they shelled out $26 million for an East Hampton mansion and scooped up an $88 million Bel Air estate, adding 21,000 square feet per newborn. That's the sort of thing you can do when one partner is a pop demigod and the other is the richest rapper on the planet.

Jay-Z upped his net worth from $810 million to $900 million over the past year, seizing hip-hop's cash crown for the first time since Forbes started counting back in 2011. The Brooklyn-born mogul's jump is due mostly to the rising value of his interests in Armand de Brignac champagne and D'Ussé cognac, on top of nine-figure ownership stakes in his Roc Nation empire and Tidal streaming service.

"We always complain about, 'We don't own this, we don't own that.' … Here he is, this man who owns that," superproducer Swizz Beatz told me in an interview for my book 3 Kings: Diddy, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z and Hip-Hop's Multibillion-Dollar Rise. "The sky is not the limit: it's just a view."

Jay-Z, Diddy and Dre are not only the wealthiest hip-hop acts on the planet, but the richest American musicians of any genre. Longtime Forbes Five champ Diddy ranks No. 2 this year despite increasing his fortune slightly in the past 12 months; tepid trends in the vodka and cable TV sectors have affected his interests in Ciroc and Revolt, but heady growth at DeLeón tequila, his joint venture with beverage giant Diageo--and massive annual earnings totals in recent years--have kept his net worth trending in the right direction.

Dre ranks third with $770 million, creeping upward thanks to the market trends boosting his nine-figure windfall from Apple's $3 billion buyout of Beats in 2014. The superproducer is also in line to receive a slug of Apple stock this summer worth well over $100 million; depending on the tech giant's share price at the time, he could leapfrog Diddy and Jay-Z when that happens.

After the top three, there's a long drop before the fourth and fifth names on the list: Drake and Eminem, tied at an even $100 million apiece. The youngest impresario of the bunch, 31-year-old Drake has earned more than $250 million since 2010, before taxes and spending; an equity stake in Virginia Black whiskey and pricey estates in Toronto, Canada, and Hidden Hills, California, pad his holdings. His inclusion on the Forbes Five represents yet another career goal achieved.

"If I'm not on your list this year, I'd be gravely disappointed," he told Forbes back in 2013. "That's pretty much my objective every year … other than making good music."

Eminem isn't known as a businessman like some of the other names on this list, but he's still the best-selling rapper of all time and moved more albums in the U.S. during the 2000s than any act in any genre. Fresh off new album Revival, he makes his Forbes Five debut as former listmember Birdman--Drake's Cash Money Records boss--slips below the $100 million mark in the wake of some apparent liquidity issues.

To compile the Forbes Five rankings, we follow the same procedures used to calculate our list of the world's billionaires (our annual update arrives Tuesday): valuing major assets, poring over financial documents, and speaking with analysts, attorneys, managers, other industry players and, in some cases, the moguls themselves.

So who will be the first hip-hop star to reach the billion-dollar mark? Trends in the spirits world could continue to play a key role for Jay-Z and Diddy. After the furious rise of vodka in the first part of this decade, fueled largely by flavored variants like those of Ciroc, the market has shifted towards cognac, whiskey and tequila.

"D'Ussé fits right in there," says Eric Schmidt, Director of Alcohol Research at Beverage Marketing Corporation. "I think DeLeón is poised for growth … it could one day be the next Patrón, but it's a long road."

Jay-Z, meanwhile, shouldn't be slacking off anytime soon: though he and Beyoncé bought their East Hampton abode outright, according to public records, their $88 million Bel Air mansion comes with a $52.8 million mortgage.

The gallant officials of the Nigerian Police in Owerri, the Imo State capital, have arrested a church pastor who allegedly arranges fake kidnap to scam his members with fake prophesies.

Police official speaking during the parade of suspects in Owerri

The officiating Pastor of Deliverance Home of Comfort Assembly, Ihiagwa in Owerri West LGA of Imo State, Pastor Benjamin Ndieze, has been apprended by officials of the Nigerian Police Force in the state for fraud.

According to reports, the cleric had arranged a lady, Blessing Ahamefula from Ihie Orji Umuonyaogu Ngwa Road, Aba in Abia State, to come to his Church at Ihiagwa with her little girl, Faith Ahamefula on 30th of January, 2018.

It was gathered that the 5-year-old girl was handed over to the Pastor who in-turn handed the girl over to his Church member, Emmanuel Onuoha and ordered him to drop the girl, Faith at NNPC Filling Station at Control Post, Owerri.

The suspects during their parade

During service and prophesy session, Pastor Benjamin prophesied that there was a woman in the congregation who was looking for her daughter that was kidnapped from Aba by her Uncle one Emeka, that the baby girl had been taken to Onitsha preparatory to be taken to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The pastor said that by his powers and prayers that the kidnappers and ritualists will drop and abandon the baby girl at NNPC Control Post, Owerri; that all members who wanted to witness the power of God should go to NNPC Control Post, Owerri to witness his power.

At NNPC Filling Station, some members of the Church were shouting kidnappers, while others were raising alarm of cultism.

Police arrested the Pastor and in the course of investigation discovered that the Pastor was fake and has defrauded most members of the Church with fake prophesy.

It is a sad moment for a Nigerian woman after her fiance dumped her and married another woman secretly.
Chinenye Blezoo and her purported fiance who dumped her for another woman

A Nigerian woman, Chinenye Blezoo has been left devastated after her fiance reportedly dumped her and secretly married another woman. Blezoo took to Facebook to share the sad story and wrote:

"My life page
I met my fiancé (now ex) on July 2014, in Lagos when I visited my sister, the visit lasted for 2weeks.
Then on January 2015, we made some relationships definitions and agreed to take it to the next level. We vowed to always be our back bone, our watch words:
BE MY LOVE FOREVER!
FOREVER!
AND EVER!!!

Not long that I mate him, he had business issues with his colleague which leads to his arrest. He lost everything he had. After his detention in police station, I contributed for his release to my capability bcs it was my first month at work, I sent the money to his uncle the same way I was paid. Had it been I had more than that of my salary then, I will give because I doesn’t sleep knowing fully well that my love was in sell. He went back to his village after his bail and joined in village hustle but it didn’t favor him, he told me that he wants to go back to Lagos but no transport, that if he can gets to Lagos, he has a friend to squat with while he hustle for living. I gave him his transport and little cash to feed with for some days. I love him because he is a hustler. I vowed to be his bone when he is weak, even without a kobo, I believed for a better tomorrow for us.

When he gets to Lagos, he searched for work and during the period of his searching for work, I was sending him feeding money for every 2weeks from the little salary I got. It took him about 6months to get work of which he told me to stop sending money to him when he received his first salary. Sometimes that he visited home, he asked me to complete his transport for him that he will send it back to me when he gets to Lagos and at the end he will not.

Husband was coming for my hand in marriage but he refused letting me go, he begged me not to live him for another man. Even when I tested him that I was pregnant for the guy that was seeking for my hand in marriage, he asked that he will marry me with the pregnancy, which nobody will know he was not the one that got me pregnant unless I tell anyone. After everything, he visited my mum and begged her not to allow me marry another man, that he will come for me. My mum agreed bcs I made her believe that I loved my guy and can’t do anything to hurt him.

At first, he planned to pay dowry on January 2017, but according to him, they didn’t close work on December 2016 so he was not able to come home. On April 2017, he visited and we had our engagement, from there we kicked off our marriage preparations.

On September 2017, he sent 40k to me to start buying things for our marriage, with it I bought some drinks for wedding and some inlaws cloths. I supported him with 40k which I used to buy ashebi’s cloths and my cloths.

He called my uncle for dates and 5th January was fixed for traditional marriage, his plans were to monetize traditional marriage in a very low key and boomed wedding, so he also discuss some issues regarding to that with my uncle and they settled. He proceeded and called the vicar for wedding date to be fixed, thou the vicar frowned at fixing date with him on phone, requesting his presence before fixing the date. But he begged the vicar that I will come and represent him bcs he is so much engaged and at far Lagos while am at east and closer, I went and 6th January was fixed for our wedding. The vicar also told me the procedure I will go, the things I ll bring before bans of marriage and the rest of them.

I got cert in church, I went to Local Government and made notice entry which they told me to come back after 21days. I did as instructed and they issued me another cert to take back to church, I took it back to church with other church requirements, 3times marriage bans was announce in the church.

I asked my hubby for more money so I can starts buying food items, he kept forming too busy and kept telling me next week to next week meanwhile marriage bans had started going on in the church. I kept asking him for money to avoid things not get too cost in the market because of Christmas, most especially rice and groundnut oil. He told me not to worry that he ll take care of those ones and any other thing that I was not able to do when he gets home, whether they get more costly or not. I accepted with joy and zero my mind in them.

On late Nov., 2017, I started having these strange feelings within myself, I asked God to show me the meaning. I called my sister and told her the type of feelings am having, she advised me to be calling my God whenever the feelings come. I equally told her to asked my hubby some questions, if he is fully out for the marriage…thou I can’t place the feelings where it maybe coming from. I also asked his closest friend Chibuzor Diala to ask him the same question. After everything, they both told me to relax my mind and move on with my wedding preparations, that my hubby assured them that no cause for any alarm.

Wow…I got so many favour for my wedding and I was able to raised 90k from family friends and brother, my loved one ordered for my decoration free, and another lover of me dashed me a bag of rice, which I told my hubby about them all. My hubby lives in Lagos while am at east, our marriage was schedule to hold at east so I was at the centre of the marriage plans. I used the 90k I raised to support my hubby in paying for wedding cake, cooking, wedding accessories and part of video/pix coverage which I paid 80% of the monies involved.

My lovely mum(God will keep you for me), in order to support her daughter’s marriage, withdrawn all that she had, went to market and bought all the ingredients that will be involve in cooking soup for swallow and ofe akwu.
Bans of marriage was announced, he asked that I should designed IV and sent to him via waybill which I did, every notices both Local Govt, towns and villages involve, friends, colleagues in working places, fellow students, we shared our IV. He asked me to take wine and IV to parents of the day and chairman of the occasion which I did. He printed our wedding banner in Lagos.

MY BLACK 23RD DECEMBER 2017.
On 23rd Dec., 2017, about 5:10am, my hubby called me that he was in the motor going to park to enter bus to east. There was this joy I felt in my heart, that in some hours, I will be with my man. I quickly prayed with him on phone for journey mercies and also asked my mum and father in the Lord to prayed for him. He said that he will call me when he boards a bus. I waited for his call from 5am to 7am, I became worried that my hubby who left to park 5am supposed to have board ticket even the bus suppose to have moved by that 7am. I picked my phone and dialed his numbers, his MTN line was not reachable and his Airtel line was not available. The next thing I heard from network was switched off (deep breath). His lines became switched off from that moment; at first I thought it was a joke. Each minute I became more worried, in total confusion. At about 3:10pm his friend from Lagos called that he was calling my hubby but his lines were switched off. With tears, I told him that it has been the same thing with me since morning.

He quickly asked me to calm down that he will arrive by evening. I waited looking at darkness falling without my man beside me. I didn’t control my tears any longer; I wished and asked God that this should be dream which I will later wakeup from. I prayed and cried throughout the night till day; I kept calling his lines each minutes and second but to no avail. Who will rescue me from this…? I quickly called my mum that I’m sinking inside an ocean, she prayed till day…In the morning, I went out to Awka street, with tears I was looking for my hubby, crying bitterly and asking people if any1 saw Henry Uzoma…I became mad without help. His lines were switched off. I sat down on the street and called Chibuzor his friend, I asked him if someone accompanied him to park? The company bus he entered? And if also there was light at the night maybe he did not charged his phones. I also sent his friend Daniel to his compound with the same question. They told me there was light throughout the night till the time he left in the morning. That he did not mention any particular company he was going, that he only said that he will board bus half-way to Benin and from Benin to Onitsha. Nobody accompanied him to park.

On 25th Dec 2017, with help of someone I went to my village. The only thing I wished and prayed for was to die. At a point, I don’t kn what to think again, my brain was full with so many thoughts: Could it be accident? If it were accident someone could have called for identification. I keep on searching facebook for any latest accident. Could it be one chance? If it were to be one chance they could have taking everything he had and pushed him away, he has my number off head, and he could have called me by now. If it were the type of one chance that demands for ransom, they would have call to mention their amount. What could it be? My mind took me to rituals… yes!!! Rituals, they had carried my man and slaughter. Tears filled my eyes. What did I do wrong God why?? Why did You allow this to happen to me?? I was bitterly crying and killing myself…I wished to die… people trooping in to console me, my phone kept ringing every second, his friends in Lagos, brothers and relatives calling to kn if I heard any news from their brother. They all believed that I should be the first he will call if he is been release.

On 28th Dec 2017, I went to his house in the village and his people became more worried seeing me. I went to his mum and dad’s grave and cried bitterly. I begged the spirit of his mum to please bring his son back home (if only spirit sees and hears). His uncle assured me that all will be well.
But there was one particular thing I kept observing, on 26th Dec, 2017; I noticed that my guy’s facebook messenger was showing active 20minutes, could this be true? I asked myself. Even the messages I sent on 23rd was delivered and equally read. I quickly checked his whatsapp, the message I sent was delivered but never read. It made me to send another message which was delivered and read in less than 2days. I became convinced that he was alive but at the same time doubting. Someone from his compound told me that he packed his bags to a girls house instead of coming to east, I said no that he cannot do that. A friend of mine who helped in prayer also told me the same thing as his revelation after the prayers, but I still doubted.

5th January 2018, my traditional marriage day. My clothes and that of my bridal train were down. My wedding cake, decoration materials, trad marriage accessories, my wedding gown and every other thing involved. I picked my phone and laid courses on him via whatsapp, that if he purposely did this to me, it will never be well with him… Lo and behold, Henry Uzoma seeing the courses I laid on him broke his silence and sent a voice message to me via whatsapp. Jesus it was his voice!!! What was he saying…Trash!!! No point, he was beating about the bush… I left my house to a far place the whole day.

Naza nwanne m you are a true sister. Amaka my friend u really helped. Chikwendu thanks a million. Eby Umejike thanks a lot. Okey you are a darling. My dear sis Onyi you are the engine of laughter, you alwaz make sure I laugh even being difficult. Dear brother Kingsley, I love you a million times. My able manager Joe and wife I can’t thank you enough. My present oga and wife thanks for your encouragement. Chisom and Dindu I appreciate your love. My 2 big mummies Lady Eby and Mrs Ify I appreciate every bit of your time spent with me, trying so much to see I overcome. Sir Mmaduabuchi, I thank you so much, you really wished to change my heart of bitterness to happiness with your 2hands, thanks for everything. My big Daddy Ven. thanks for being there for me, your calls, words of encouragement and prayers always keep my life ahead. I thanked you all that consoled me. I love you all so much.

I equally thanked those that gossiped, those that are still gossiping and those that will kick off their gossips from now, you shall carry on. Am not praying that this should happen to anybody, but in your gossips, remember that you may be a victim of this type of circumstance.

On 8th Jan. 2018, I saw a post from his wall saying and I quote; “Some people want me dead on 23rd December 2017, but thank God for saving my life, I will tell the story when I am fit” My man who posted on facebook about the people that want him dead did not call me, when I called, he didn’t pick even when he picked, he didn’t talk.

On 10th Jan 2018, I browse my facebook and saw a friend request with the name “Hmighty Uzoma”. I checked the profile but it was a brand new account. But because the account was bearing my guy’s name, I quickly accepted the friend request. In less than 20 minutes, I saw pictures of my man holding a girl very closely, and they were also in uniform. I quickly remembered the cloth, my hubby after sowing the cloth, snapped with it and sent to me to praise the style which I did, so the same cloth was a uniform sowed with this girl.
I quickly saved the pictures uploaded it to his whatsapp and I confronted him…boldly told me to move on with my life, that God will not allow me to die just like that…

I felt down, I was very bittered and my heart was cutting very fast that I found it difficult to breathe… God showed me mercy through my madam, thou I developed heart problem but am healed now. I had picked the pieces of my heart and as I drop this pen, am moving on. Thank God for everything. It is well with my soul. Like a bird flying in the sky, am now free from every pains. I ll join the month of Match to match forward.

My fellow ladies, I believe my story will serve as an eye opener to you. When men are coming your way, be very watchful and careful, on 31st of Dec 2017, I was busy crying while he was in the arms of another woman romancing her. I found out that some of my evidence was upload on 31st of DEC by the girl. Create meanings in every step he make and be observant, I saw it coming, I felt it but I didn’t grab the meanings. Most of these men you see everyday leave fake lives, Most especially when they are a little far from you. I also advice you love with your head not your heart because your heart will get chattered over and over again.
Thank you.

Many persons were feared killed Thursday night as Boko Haram gunmen staged a late evening attack on Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge local government area of Borno State, sources said.

File photo

Nigerian troops suffered a massive setback in the war against terrorism as Boko Haram terrorists sprung a surprise attack on Rann killing at least a dozen people and injuring several others.

A security source told SaharaReporters that the terror group stormed military base of the 3rd Battalion in Rann headquarters of Kala-Balge on Thursday at about 6 pm and engaged in a gun duel that lasted for 5 hours.

The terrorist group also reportedly abducted three aid workers (2 from ICRC clinic team and 1 from UNICEF) in addition to killing a UNICEF doctor, and two workers from the International Organization for Migration

On the military side, the terror group reportedly abducted at least three soldiers, killed three Mobile Policemen attached to an internally displaced person camp and made away with a military truck and an Armored personnel carrier belonging to the Nigerian army.

A security personnel who asked not to be named confirmed to PREMIUM Times via telephone that the attack started at about 7pm.

“We got the report that Rann was being attacked at about 7pm and that many persons may have been affected but no one can clearly say the number of dead casualty,” the source said.

“We have to wait till morning before one could tell exactly what happened there.”

An audio distress message sent out by a woman working for an international humanitarian organization in the town, also confirmed that the village was attacked by terrorists.

There is no telephone service in Rann, but humanitarian workers depend on wifi services provided by their employers to communicate with loved ones via social media platforms that support video or voice calls.

Rann is a small town in Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria, and a home to a camp for internally displaced people. In January 2017, a Nigerian military jet mistakenly bombed a refugee camp, killing more than 100 people.

Many civilians including personnel of International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) were wounded in the attack.

A man who was on a motorcycle and snatched a phone from a lady standing by the road with her child, fell off the bike and hit his head on the ground living him in a pool of blood.

The thief

A Facebook user identified as Darlington Smith, has taken to the social networking platform and reveal how a suspected thief almost met his end after robbing a lady of her phone in Liberia in February 25.

It was gathered that the man who was on a motorcycle, snatched a phone from a lady standing by the roadside with her child. Within a few minutes, the thief fell off the bike and hit his head on the ground leaving him in a pool of blood.

Here's how the story was narrated online:

*****************

"IT IS OFTEN SAID "99 DAYS FOR ROGUE ONE DAY FOR MASTER".

This morning at about 9:30-10am a familiar but strange thing happened. A girl and her kid were standing along the road right in front of the Paynesville Community School in the JOE BAR, PAYNESVILLE trying to get a taxi for home from Church. A motorbike rider quietly approached them and snatched the lady phone by surprise.

Unexpectedly for the lady her phone was successfully snatched by the Motorbike rider. But within a minute got quite unfortunate, a miracle occurred...Maybe it was an intervention from HEAVEN . The motorbike rider felled to the ground and was badly hurt to the extend he couldn't get up or move a micro inch. Even the rushing angry mob felt pity for him. His head apparently hit the coal tar so hard and he was dragged by his own bike. There was a very deep cut at the back of his head from which thick blood ouched and spread on the motor road.

In the process he lost his bike to an unknown person and the phone was given back to girl(who was shivering with fear and surprise). It had a little crack from the fall too. His wallet which contained 150LD was taken away.I doubt if he survives, the rider will ever steal again or be a normal person.

After 20mins the police arrived and along with some passers-by helped him through another rider to leave the scene...maybe for treatment at a nearby Hospital."

Despite the introduction of kerosene stove and recently, the rampant use of gas cookers, cooking with firewood is far from going away.

The improvised firewood stove

This picture of an improvised firewood stove is making rounds online and the good news is that it was locally produced.

Popular reports have it that it was designed by some talented craftsmen in Aba, Abia State. This has been described as a welcomed development which is fast in cooking.

It could be adopted by eatries cooking for commercial purposes as it will reduce the cost of production.

A Zambian politician has been sentenced to death by hanging after he was found guilty of first-degree murder.
Keith Mukata, a prominent MP for Chilanga under the United Party for National Development (UPND) shot and killed his security guard, Namakambwa Kwenda, on the 6th of May, 2017, at his law firm in Lusaka.
It was reported that the deceased was attempting to separate the politician from a fight with his girlfriend when he angrily shot and killed him at close range.
On Wednesday, the Lusaka High Court Judge Susan Wanjelani sentenced the politician to death by hanging, under Section 200 of the Penal Code Chapter 87. While his girlfriend and co-accused Charmaine Musonda was acquitted in the murder case due to lack of evidence.
His lawyer Milner Katolo described the judgment as shocking, immediately indicating intentions to appeal against the judgment, Lusaka Times reported.
But Ms. Wenjelani dispelled Mukata’s testimony, stating that the MP’s defence did not assist the court as it was unwarranted attacks on the prosecutions.

An asthma patient has died after a doctor reportedly refused to attend to her because she came late to the hospital.
Ellie-May Clark, 5, died of an asthma attack (Picture: PA)
A five-year-old girl died of an asthma attack after a doctor refused to see her because she was late to her appointment, an inquest heard today. Little Ellie-May Clark, who suffered from ‘life-threatening asthma’, was taken to her surgery after falling ill at school.
Mum Shanice Clark had called the clinic for an emergency appointment after Ellie-May had been unable to walk home and was wheezing. But Shanice said she was five minutes late to Ellie-May’s 5pm appointment and then had to wait in line to speak to the receptionist. An inquest heard she reached the reception desk of The Grange Clinic in Newport, South Wales between 5.10pm and 5.18pm.
But because the surgery had a ’10 minute rule’ for lateness, GP Dr Joanne Rowe told Shanice and Ellie-May to return the next day. After being turned away, the little girl was left in tears and asked her worried mother: ‘Why won’t the doctor see me, mummy?’
That night Shanice put Ellie-May to bed and checked on her every ten to fifteen minutes, the inquest was told. But at 10.30pm Shanice found her blue and flailing around on the floor before ringing 999. Shanice said: ‘I tried to give her her pump but she wouldn’t let me.
‘She fell off her bed onto the floor. I turned her light on and I saw her hands and her face were blue. That’s when I rang 999.’ Ellie-May was rushed to hospital on January 25 2015, but died before her mum arrived. Her cause of death was bronchial asthma.
Her mother told the hearing that she had informed the surgery they may be late as she had to arrange last minute childcare and catch a bus. Dr Rowe, who had no patients between 4.50pm and 5.20pm that day, refused to see Ellie-May and said for her to come back the next morning for the walk-in surgery.
Giving evidence, Dr Rowe said receptionist Ann Jones rang her to say that Ellie-May had arrived but the GP had already called in her next patient. Dr Rowe said: ‘She said that the girl had arrived late. She said I’ll tell her to come back tomorrow morning shall I and I said yes.
The inquest heard in March 2014 Dr Rowe had received a letter from a consultant saying Ellie-May was at risk of ‘life-threatening asthma’ but she did not write the information predominantly on the youngster’s file. And on the day of her death Dr Rowe, who had been a GP for 22 years, had not even opened Ellie-May’s medical notes before turning her away. Mrs Jones said it was the first time she had ever turned away an emergency appointment in four years at the surgery.
She said: ‘Some particular doctors would adhere to the ten minute rule more than others. ‘This is the only occasion that I was ever challenged with it with an emergency appointment.’
When asked if she felt uncomfortable turning away a child, Mrs Jones said: ‘I did because I was always taught that you should never turn away children and the elderly.’ The inquest heard Mrs Jones noticed it had been recorded that Ellie-May ‘did not attend’the appointment – but the receptionist then made a note saying the youngster was late. The hearing continues.

A young Nigerian lady who was nabbed for stealing as many as three children, has made a shocking confession about the crime.

Joy Esu, a kidnap suspect has claimed she didn’t receive any payment for all the six children she abducted and handed over to her boyfriend, saying she believes he used dark powers to make her commit the crimes, Punch Metro reports.

The suspected child abductor, 28-year-old Joy Esu, was arrested alongside other suspects in Osogbo, where they were also paraded on Thursday.

In addition to Joy Esu, the Osun State Police Command also arrested a Reverend Father who claimed to be a parish priest at Our Lady of Fatima Woliwo, Onitsha, in Anambra State, Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor.

He was alleged to have been involved in the stealing of 18-month-old baby boy, Abdulahi Azeez, in Osogbo, Osun State.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, who led other officers at the parade of the suspects at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo on Thursday, commended his offices and men for nabbing the suspects.

Joy Esu said she approached Abdulahi’s mother at her shop and pretended to want to learn tailoring, noting that the unsuspecting woman accepted.

However, Joy absconded with the baby on February 18 when his mother went to the market.

Joy said she handed the baby to her boyfriend, Sidney Onwuka; who reportedly sold him to Maxwell Agu, who claimed to operate a government-approved orphanage at Orlu in Imo State.

Joy said she did know if her boyfriend used charms to manipulate her to carry out anything he told her; swearing that Onwuka has never paid her any money, even after she had handed over to him six children, all of whom he had allegedly sold.

She said, “He (Onwuka) always sent me to go and do anything and I would go without hesitation.

“I even sold my daughter to him, but he didn’t give me ordinary N5.”

Onwuka also claimed that he had sold six babies — including his own child — to Agu, and that Agu paid him N200,000 for his own child.

Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor allegedly became involved when Elizabeth, a member of the parish, reportedly contacted him to help her when she wanted to adopt a male child.

During an interview with journalists, Ejiofor said he had no evil intention when he contacted the orphanage owner, Agu, noting that the overall driving force was to be of help to the desperate woman.

Ejiofor said, “This woman, Elizabeth, met me after Adoration and said she wanted to adopt a male child.

“I contacted Maxwell (Agu) because I know that he has an orphanage home and he brought a form of adoption.

“He later brought the baby to our parish, together with Joy. I called Elizabeth and she said she liked the baby boy.

“The woman handed N750,000 to me and I gave it to Maxwell.

“He (Maxwell Agu) said she must pay additional N50,000 and I asked what the money was meant for. He said it was for the processing of adoption papers and certificate.

“I called him later after the payment had been made, but Maxwell said the certificate was not ready.

“I wanted to help the lady and that was what I was after, because people came to me for help and I helped them.

“I am in shock now. This is my 32nd year in the ministry, but look at how I crashed.

“I asked Maxwell why he did this to me. My hands, legs and entire body are in the trap now. How do I extricate myself from the trap?

“I only wanted to assist the woman; I had no other intention. That is all I know about the whole thing.”

Elizabeth, who adopted the baby, said she had six grown up daughters but wanted to have a male child because of the “negative effect of not having a male child in Igbo culture.”

She said she contacted Rev. Fr. Ejiofor to help her because she did not know how to go about it.

Elizabeth, who said she was a widow, said she regretted seeking a male child for adoption.

The CP said the baby was sold for N800,000, allegedly facilitated by Rev. Father Chike Ejiofor.

He said the suspects stole the baby and drugged him so that he would not scream when they were taking him out of Osun State.

The joint operation also led to the arrest of 23-year-old Isaiah Suwe, an ally of wanted kidnapper, Terwase Awkaza aka Gana, who is on the run.

The gang, it was learnt, was responsible for the kidnap of some Canadians and Americans along the Abuja – Kaduna road.

The service had on 20th January, 2018, intercepted the leader of the gang, Abubakar Muhammed (aka Gemere) along the Lokoja – Okene highway where he was killed in a gun battle with operatives.

Moving down South, the DSS said it arrested another notorious kidnapper, Anthony Kio Eelegwe, a 37-year old engineer who hails from Oyigba Community, Ahoada-West LGA of Rivers State at Ekeki, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on February 22, 2018.

The DSS revealed that it had also shot and killed some fleeing criminals during a gun duel around Rugan Fulani, Gidan Gwari, outskirts of Ajaokuta LGA and Ganaja Junction, Lokoja, Kogi State respectively.

The agency said the dead elements were responsible for the kidnap of a Canadian national – Benjamin Wheller on 20th September, 2017 as well as the Kidnap/killing of a Chinese Expatriate – Liaolun Song and his police orderly, Mathew Yahaya along Ajaokuta Road on 14th September, 2017.

“The duo of Abubakar and Buhari are responsible for many killings and rustling of cattle in the Zamfara axis. The Nigerian government has refused to be discouraged by the attack on the oil exploration team at the Lake Chad Basin which led to the death of over 60 people in an attack by Boko Haram members.

Barely two weeks after the release of some lecturers prospecting for oil at the Chad Basin, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC,has concluded arrangement to recommence exploration activities at the basin, Managing Director of NNPC,Maikanti Baru, has said.

Oil exploration activities at the Chad Basin was suspended for months due to the abduction of the three lecturers from the University of Maiduguri which raised fresh security concerns.

Baru, who led a team of the company’s top management staff to the Kaduna International Trade fair on Wednesday said the NNPC has discovered four locations in the BenueTrough which has renewed its hope on the prospect of an oil find in the basin and is ready to go back.

“On the Lake Chad oil exploration,we have been working tirelessly and we thank the President for rescuing some of the lecturers that were involved in the exploration in the region. We are going back to the Chad Basin with full force,” He said.

The Uruguayan has put his early-season struggles behind him with a spell of fantastic form since mid-November, scoring 20 goals in his last 22 games.

Luis Suarez
Lionel Messi was left all alone. With Neymar departed in a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain, summer signing Ousmane Dembele taking time to settle and then injured and Luis Suarez off form, it was down to the Argentine to provide the spark and score the goals for Barcelona.
Suarez was there, but not really there. Chances came and went for the Uruguayan and Barca fans grew frustrated as very few of those ended up in the back of the net – just three in 14 matches to be precise.
A knee injury in the opening league game against Betis had hindered his progress, while he probably returned too quickly as well in his eagerness to help Uruguay seal qualification for this summer's World Cup.
In the meantime, the departure of Neymar probably hit Suarez the hardest, while the former Liverpool striker was also forced to adapt to a new position and formation following the arrival of Ernesto Valverde as coach.
His first coach at Uruguayan club Nacional, Martin Lasarte, told Goal that he believed the striker would be back to his best before long, while Valverde also backed his player. "The more he misses, the better!"he said in October. "The important thing is he is getting into the right positions. The goals will come."
And they have. Suarez's hat-trick in Barca's 6-1 win over Girona at Camp Nou on Saturday means he has now netted 20 in his last 22 games for the Catalan club, including doubles against Leganes, Deportivo La Coruna, Real Sociedad and Betis.
It is a scoring streak that has helped Barca advance to the final of the Copa del Rey for the fourth season in a row, while keeping up their unbeaten run in La Liga, which now stands at 25 matches.
Now in his fourth season at Camp Nou, Suarez surpassed the 100-goal mark in La Liga recently too and has 144 in 183 in all competitions since signing from Liverpool in the summer of 2014.
A treble winner in his debut campaign under Luis Enrique in 2014-15, the Uruguayan's return to form will give Barca hope of another triple triumph this time as Valverde's side challenge on three fronts.
Curiously, Suarez has yet to convert in the Champions League this season, despite featuring in all seven games for the Blaugrana so far in the competition. However, he is confident Barca can advance after Messi's goal sealed a 1-1 draw at Chelsea in the teams' last-16 first leg in London last week.

"It was a beneficial goal for the second leg to have more space at the Camp Nou," Suarez said. "Our strength is being better at home, that's why it was important to score. Now they have to try to score at the Camp Nou and we'll have more space."
So too will Suarez and on current form, that spells danger for Chelsea, even though goals have been harder to come by for the Uruguayan in Europe this term.
Asked on Twitter on Sunday who he thought was the world's best striker at the moment, former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville said Suarez.
It is a far cry from his early-season struggles and Neville is right: on this form, there is no finer centre-forward than Barca's brilliant No. 9. And alongside an inspired Messi, the 31-year-old now looks ready to make more history at Camp Nou this season.

Kogi state Governor Yahaya Bello, will be made to face the full wrath of the law over the allegation of double INEC registration, an official of the electoral body has revealed.

While speaking at the INEC office in Lokoja, capital of Kogi, on Thursday, the resident electoral commissioner (REC) in the state, James Apam, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the allegation of double registration against Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, still stands.

He said: “The allegation of double registration has not been swept under the carpet; we cannot prosecute Bello now because he enjoys immunity as a sitting governor. He has committed an offence and we shall prosecute him when he is out office.”

According to TheCable, he said the recent issuance of a temporary voter’s card to the governor did not mean that the issue of double registration had been swept under the carpet.

Recall that on February 26, INEC issued a temporary voter’s card to the governor after applying for the transfer of his permanent card from Abuja to Okene.

Last year, INEC declared the second registration done by Bello at the government house, Lokoja, on May 23, as illegal and contrary to the electoral act.

The electoral body, through one of its federal commissioners, Emmanuel Shoyebi, said the registration, which was done outside the designated registration centre, amounted to a criminal offence.

Shoyebi said Bello did his first registration at Wuse Zone 11 in Abuja, on Janaury 30, 2011.

For their involvement in the double registration saga, a senior official of INEC was compulsorily retired from service while two others were summarily dismissed last month.

Apam, however, explained that a temporary voter’s card was issued to the governor based on legal advice, saying that the governor would surely face the consequences of his crime at the appropriate time.

He said INEC’s legal advisers had advised the electoral body not to deny Bello his right to vote and be voted for since he could not be tried at the moment.

Jyoti Amge is enjoying the best of life even though she's the smallest woman on planet earth

According to Guinness World Book of Records, Jyoti Amge is the smallest living woman on planet earth.
The woman from India who is 23 years-old has held the title since 2012. She got married to the love of her life at the age of 23. She was born December on the 16th of  1993.
Jyoti, has a height of 62.8 centimetres (2 ft 0.6 in) and from medical records, her restricted height is due to a growth abnormality called achondroplasia – which means she will never grow any taller than 2 ft 1 in (0.64 m).
As the smallest woman in the world, it’s neither all negative for Jyoti Amge nor has it done anything to hamper her progress — her status has also taken her to greater heights actually.
She ended up living her dream of becoming a Hollywood actress when she was cast in the fourth season of American Horror Story: Freak Show as Ma Petite.
While speaking of her life growing up in an interview, Jyoti said her new found fame has made her feel better and more important in the society.
“I’m very happy to be the world’s smallest woman. Getting this record has made me feel better about myself. I feel popular, special and important. It was always my dream to come to London, to see Tower Bridge, the London Eye, and Madame Tussauds.”

Getting people’s attention is something Jyoti Amge has gotten used to all her life – though it made her uncomfortable at first, she said she finally learn to live and enjoy it.
“In India, when I go around I hate the feeling of having a crowd around me, just standing there staring at me. They just come to look. It makes me feel uncomfortable. So sometimes I cover up my face with a scarf so people don’t recognise me.

“I am proud of being small. I have the same thoughts and the same dreams as you. I would like to be an actress in Hollywood and win an Oscar. The only difference is my height.
“The worst part about being so small is that I always have to rely on someone. I can’t go anywhere on my own, so I’m always dependent. I can’t run or walk too fast. If I was taller for a day, I’d just go off on my own independently.”
At 12lb, Jyoti Amge is only nine pounds heavier than when she was born. She talked about when she first realized she was smaller than other people early in life.
“I was very young – just three years old. My mum and dad took me to the hospital to find out why I was not growing properly like the others. At the beginning, I used to be very upset about the fact that I was not growing. I didn’t like how people stared at me.”

About her attire and clothing, Jyoti said all clothes and jewellery are custom-made.
Jyoti and her husband
“There’s a mall in India where I always go — the only place I can find clothes in my size. I go to a special shop for my rings. They measure my fingers and order the rings in specially.”
Other than chatting on social media, playing video games and watching TV during her spare time, Jyoti Amge said she loves to hang out with her friends; who usually carry her since they’re much taller.
As for romance, Jyoti insists that’s not an option for her.

“I’m not looking for a boyfriend — but if I was, he’d have to be prepared to carry me around everywhere,” she said.
