German playmaker, Mesut Ozil has hit the jackpot at Arsenal with a bumper pay offered to him by the club which he has signed.
German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal a big boost on Wednesday by finally agreeing a new contract which will see him become the highest paid player in the club’s history, according to the BBC.
The broadcaster reports that the 29-year-old playmaker — who has been with the Gunners since joining from Real Madrid for a then-record club fee of £42.4million ($60million, 48.2million euros) in 2013 — signed a three-and-a-half year contract and will earn around £350,000 a week.
Speculation over both Ozil and Chilean Alexis Sanchez’s futures have plagued the club for almost a year, as both their contracts were up at the end of the present campaign.
However, whilst Sanchez left for Manchester United, where he has become the highest paid player in the Premier League at a pre-tax weekly wage of £500,000, Ozil has committed himself to Arsenal until 2021.
According to the BBC both parties reached an agreement last weekend, and Ozil signed the new contract at Arsenal’s training ground on Wednesday.
Mercurial playmaker Ozil, a key member of the Germany side that won the 2014 World Cup, has scored 36 goals in 182 appearances and provided a high number of assists.
Arsenal have had a busy Wednesday as Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed for reported club-record £56million from Borussia Dortmund, a move which is likely to prompt Olivier Giroud’s departure to Chelsea.

Chelsea’s top-four hopes took a hit as a shambolic display saw Bournemouth cruise to an impressive win at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s ponderous transfer window was ruthlessly exposed as a disjointed display enabled Bournemouth to record an emphatic 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
The defending Premier League champions toiled throughout January in their pursuit of a physical centre-forward to back-up Alvaro Morata with success finally achieved with the arrival of Olivier Giroud on Wednesday, hours before the deadline and too late for the former Arsenal man to be included here.
With Morata injured, Michy Batshuayi sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund and Giroud watching from the stands, Chelsea lacked an obvious focal point in attack. Pedro, Eden Hazard and Ross Barkley formed a hastily arranged front three, but it misfired horribly.
In stark contrast, the visitors were wonderfully fluent with Ryan Fraser, Jordon Ibe and Junior Stanislas’ direct approach causing Chelsea’s backline no end of problems.
Callum Wilson put Bournemouth ahead after 51 minutes before Stanislas and former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake also got in on the act to hand Antonio Conte’s men their third league defeat at Stamford Bridge this season
Chelsea’s struggles were evident from the first minute with Bournemouth coping easily with what little was thrown at them. Bournemouth looked a more cohesive unit and had the better of the early exchanges. Stanislas had already tested Thibaut Courtois from 25 yards before another bright attack, which saw Fraser break clear down the right, was brought to a premature end by referee Lee Probert after he adjudged Wilson to have fouled Andreas Christensen. Ibe then fired a powerful effort at Courtois before Chelsea twice threatened at the other end. Gary Cahill nodded a corner just over on the half-hour mark and, nine minutes later, the hosts’ wingbacks combined with Marcos Alonso narrowly nodding Davide Zappacosta’s right-wing cross past the post. It was, in truth, a dire opening period, but the game opened up after the break.
Just six minutes had elapsed when Wilson played a neat one-two with Ibe before running on to the return ball and slipping it under the advancing Courtois.
Hazard saw an effort saved by Asmir Begovic but Bournemouth doubled their advantage after 64 minutes – Wilson playing in Stanislas who toe-poked into the net.
With Barkley already hauled off for Cesc Fabregas, there appeared no sign of a Chelsea comeback and it was no surprise when Bournemouth added a third.
The home side failed to clear a corner and when Ibe turned it back towards goal, Ake stuck out a foot to divert it past Courtois.
Alonso fired narrowly wide and curled a free-kick into the wall but Bournemouth’s defences were not to be breached.

There was unrest recently at a local community in the South-south part of Nigeria following the unprecedented invasion by Cameroonian gendarmes.

At least more than 80 Cameroonian gendarmes late Monday night crossed the international border between Nigeria and Cameroon and invaded Danare, in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The gendarmes, according to sources, claimed that they were fighting Cameroon militants who took refuge in the community.
There are well over 5,000 Cameroonian refugees seeking asylum in Danare 1 and 2 communities following the unrest in the southern part of Cameroon.
Cameroonian gendarmes from Bodam community had, in October 2017, invaded Danare, killing two farmers.
The PUNCH learnt that gendarmes from Cameroon had also, in December, abducted five persons from Danare on the claims that they were suspected youths involved in the fight for the creation of Ambazonia.
When contacted, the Cross River State Security Adviser, Mr. Jude Ngaji said the matter was being handled at the highest level of government in the country.
Ngaji said, “The issue has gone beyond the Police and the Nigerian Army has just deployed a battalion to the area.

“No Nigerian has been killed and as you know, this is an international issue which is being handled at the highest level of government.”

Arsenal FC have finally agreed a club record deal with Borussia Dortmund for their top goalscorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the African star arrives London ahead of his signing.
According to Sky Sports, Gabon international and Borussia Dortmund’s superstar striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Arsenal appears near completion as the striker has arrived at Arsenal’s training ground on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old French-born player is one of the top strikers in the world and had looked set to arrive just days after Alexis Sanchez’s departure to Manchester United.
The former Milan and Monaco man had two great seasons at Saint-Etienne before moving to Dortmund in 2013.
He scored 39 goals in the 2015-16 season for the German club and 40 in 2016-17. He has 21 goals in 24 games for Dortmund this season.
He is clinical, agile and has tons of speed, which should mesh well with Arsenal’s quick attack.
His fee is believed to be in the region of $77 million according to Goal.com, and he would form quite the pairing up top with Alexandre Lacazette.

Humbling losses to Swansea City and West Brom loomed over Liverpool’s trip to Huddersfield but Mohamed Salah closed out a 3-0 victory.

Liverpool put back-to-back defeats behind them as Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah secured a routine 3-0 win at Huddersfield Town.
The glow of the Reds’ stunning 4-3 win over Premier League leaders Manchester City earlier this month quickly faded as a loss at lowly Swansea was followed by West Brom arriving at Anfield to ransack Jurgen Klopp’s FA Cup bid at the weekend.
Klopp, who benched record signing Virgil van Dijk, initially looked like he would get few favours out of close friend David Wagner and Huddersfield until Can’s deflected drive broke the deadlock after 26 minutes.
Firmino caught out Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl in first-half stoppage time, leaving a mountain that the hosts seldom looked like scaling before Philip Billing clumsily fouled Can in the box and Salah dispatched his 26th goal of the season in all competitions.
It proved to be a profitable night with regards to Liverpool’s Champions League ambitions as Arsenal went down 3-1 at Swansea City, while Klopp can look forward to the prospect of Manchester United and Tottenham taking points off one another on Wednesday.
Huddersfield adopted the deep-lying but energetic defensive approach that almost bore fruit against Manchester City in November and Liverpool were frustrated in their bid for clear chances during the opening 15 minutes.
It was the hosts who fashioned the first clear sight of goal when wing-back Chris Lowe galloped down the Liverpool right and crossed for Laurent Depoitre, who failed to catch his shot cleanly and Loris Karius saved well.
The heavily protected Lossl got down to keep out an awkwardly bouncing strike from Can but he had no chance when the same player’s venomous drive clipped Billing and flew into the bottom right corner.
A raucous home crowd’s backing for their team did not waver and Lowe almost raised the roof five minutes before half-time when his free-kick curled just wide after Sadio Mane brought down Town captain Jonathan Hogg.
But Wagner’s men were forced to absorb a sucker punch on the stroke of the interval when Firmino made light of an acute angle to squeeze a clever finish between Lossl and his upright.
Huddersfield still showed little inclination to operate outside their own half for too long and Mane might have done better when he headed Can’s searching cross at Lossl.
The same combination almost succeeded in the 69th minute, with Can launching the ball over the top from midfield and Mane powering a diving header wide.
Wagner’s side had hopeful penalty appeals waved away when Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson tangled with substitute Colin Quaner.
It was then Salah’s turn to be wasteful in front of goal by prodding into the side-netting having scooted around Lossl.
That miss did not discourage the Egypt star when Kevin Friend pointed to the spot 12 minutes from time and Salah sent the Lossl the wrong way – also the direction in which Huddersfield’s season is heading.
Winless in seven, they are 14th and only a point above the relegation zone in an increasingly congested fight for survival.

The goal-keeper and captain of the home-based Super Eagles, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has opened up on how his team regained confidence to defeat Angola and qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing CHAN 2018.
While speaking after he was named man of the match for his impressive performance between the sticks, captain of the home-based Super Eagles, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, said that Yusuf Salisu’s belief in his players gave the team the confidence to defeat Angola.
Ezenwa, said the coach’s body language on the touchline was pivotal to the eventual outcome. “For the victory, I’ll say the coach was wonderful because even at the 88th minute of the game he never lost confidence, he was still standing at the touchline, telling us we can do it, that we can make it.
“And when I looked at him from my goal post, I told my defenders, we can score. They should just believe because look at the coach, he had not sat down because he still had that belief.
“That was why when the goal entered I ran from my post down to the coach to tell him well done. I thank God and dedicate this man of the match award to my beloved son — my last born. He said daddy I wish you good luck before the game and I think it has come to pass.”
Ezenwa said the players are determined to qualify for the final of the tournament. “I think the highest level Nigeria has gone is the semi-final and won the bronze medal. Before we left Nigeria, we had an agreement that we have to break that record.
“And I think by the grace of God, we are going to break that jinx to reach the finals. When we went into the game against Angola, we told ourselves that we are not going to lose the match.”
Ahead of the quarter-final clash against Angola, Ezenwa said his colleagues are brimming with confidence and will endeavour to emerge victors. “Sudan, we respect them and we still remain humble. We don’t fear them. We should not lose focus and believe in ourselves,” he said.

“That same belief we use in defeating Libya and Angola. We’ll have to put effort more because that is their main national team.”
The CHAN Eagles will face Sudan in the semi-final of the competition on Wednesday.

Manchester City had to come from behind to beat Bristol City in the EFL Cup, Sergio Aguero heading in last-gasp decider.

Sergio Aguero scored a stoppage-time winner as Manchester City beat Bristol City 2-1 in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday.
Pre-match talk had focused on the quadruple chances of Pep Guardiola’s men, but they had to come from behind at the Etihad Stadium despite the Catalan naming a strong side, Aguero coming off the bench to settle it.
Bristol City – who dumped Manchester United out in the last round – refused to be cowed and Lee Johnson’s high-flying Championship team matched the runaway Premier League leaders in an enthralling first half, with the visitors going into the interval ahead courtesy of Bobby Reid’s penalty.
Manchester City’s centre-back pairing were both at fault, Eliaquim Mangala losing possession and John Stones mistiming a tackle in the box on Reid, who picked himself up to convert from the spot.
After a lax first period the hosts were much brighter and got back on terms 10 minutes into the second half, Kevin De Bruyne beating Frank Fielding with a powerful shot after playing a one-two with Raheem Sterling.
Fielding made a string of saves to keep the sides level but the goalkeeper could not stop Aguero flicking home Bernardo Silva’s cross in injury time to give his side a slender advantage, although the Robins will take heart from their display ahead of hosting the second leg in two weeks’ time

City unsurprisingly began on the front foot as Ilkay Gundogan hit an effort wide and Bernardo Silva’s deflected shot looped over, but Bristol City did not look overawed.
Johnson’s men called Claudio Bravo into action for the first time after 15 minutes, Joe Bryan firing at goal after a driving run but finding the goalkeeper equal to his strike.
Fielding blocked Leroy Sane’s cross and then had to tip over a whipped De Bruyne curler as the underdogs gave the ball away deep in their own half.
Marlon Pack rifled a drive at Bravo after 32 minutes as the visitors continued to pose a threat.
And after Bailey Wright was perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty when he appeared to drag down Stones, the second-tier side won a spot-kick of their own.
Stones dived in on Reid after Mangala gave the ball away to Josh Brownhill, the fouled forward tucking away confidently from 12 yards.
Manchester City almost equalised immediately only for Aden Flint to make a miraculous headed clearance from Sterling’s goalbound lob.
Sterling, playing as a central striker with Aguero named among the substitutes, turned De Bruyne’s cross at Fielding before Guardiola sent for the Argentina international with 20 minutes remaining. Aguero scored twice in quick succession as his side came from 1-0 down at the break to beat Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday and he saw to it that the champions-elect repeated the trick. Silva’s cross was perfectly floated for Aguero to flick a header past Fielding and complete the turnaround at the death. DOWNLOAD VIDEO HERE! Fielding rushed out to deny Sterling five minutes after the break, but the he could do little about the equalising goal.
Bravo started an attack that Bristol City never got close to stopping, captain De Bruyne slamming in an unstoppable finish after swapping passes with Sterling.

Outspoken on-air personality, Daddy Freeze, has again questioned the concept of tithing as preached in most churches by replying to the Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo.

Pastor Ashimolowo had tweeted:
“Jesus is our High Priest after the ORDER of Melchizedek. If Abraham brought tithes to Melchizedek the High Priest, we, the seed of Abraham must also bring our tithes to Jesus, our High Priest.#ThePowerOfTheTithe.”
 Freeze replied and asked:
“So how come Jesus never collected tithe & how come no one ever ‘brought’ tithe to him or disciples? Are we Melchizedekians or Christians?”
This is not the first time Daddy Freeze will be replying the Senior Pastor as he has been at loggerheads with most preachers due to their church’s take on tithing, which he ( Daddy Freeze) sees as another form of extorting the church members.

As soon as he pads into the smart lobby of a Leeds hotel, 25-year-old Nigerian pop star Davido — wearing Gucci slippers and a merch shirt from his 30 Billion world tour — is accosted by excited staff requesting selfies. One woman tells him: “I listen to your music every day!”
Davido, aka David Adedeji Adeleke, is slightly jet-lagged, but amiable. He’s arrived in Leeds to perform at the 2017 Mobo Awards, where he’ll also receive the Best African Act trophy. This isn’t Davido’s first UK trip; he’s previously packed out club shows here. He has, however, reached a point where his success across Africa is translating into international recognition. Having signed a major label deal with Sony, his triumphant latest single “Fia” follows “If” and “Fall” (the latter tracks so far amassing 54.7m and 38m views respectively on YouTube).
“Funnily enough, this is the first time that I’ve won European awards,” says Davido, in sweetly raspy tones. “I realised that when I really focused on Africa and my culture, that’s when people started recognising me. I travel a lot, but I know the kind of environment I need to be in; I’d rather create the music at home, in Lagos. The travelling distracts me, because there’s so much going on.” In the western music mainstream, the profile of young African talent is soaring. Of course, Africa’s vital influence on, and cross-pollination with, international music scenes, has been deep-rooted over decades; among countless examples are Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat movement and legendary 1970s Lagos hotspot The Shrine, which drew the likes of Paul McCartney to work in Nigeria. The 21st century has seen collaborative projects such as Africa Express: launched by British musician Damon Albarn, it has connected artists from Mali, Congo, Senegal, the UK and the US. But recent years have also seen the mainstream focus on “afrobeats”: seemingly a catch-all term, yet very distinct from Fela’s polemical grooves. Afrobeats sounds are fuelled by youth culture and catchy anthems, their vocals and rhythms laced with electronic effects. Some artists have been Brits reflecting their African heritage: take Fuse ODG, whose 2014 debut TINA (This Is New Africa) merged Ghanaian dance roots with western club production, or fellow Londoner J Hus, whose album Common Sense created a buzz this year. Many others, such as Davido, are Nigerian talents whose success was established well before western attention: D’banj, say, who scored a 2012 hit with “Oliver Twist”, or Wizkid, who raised the roof at London’s Royal Albert Hall in September. Afrobeats has also notably inspired work by international stars including Beyoncé and Drake. Why is it that the western mainstream has now experienced an awakening? David Adeleke has won Best African Act at the MTV EMAs, and in early 2018 his 30 Billion tour (which has already covered venues across the US, Spain, Djibouti, Ivory Coast and beyond) hits the UK.

It’s the internet and social media,” replies Davido, with the assurance of someone who has Nigeria’s biggest Instagram account (5.5m followers). “I’m telling you, Nigerian people have a supportive force, and an amazing energy. Beyoncé and Kanye felt it on their visits, but Nigeria has always been very big on entertainment; when I was little, a big artist would come over to play every Christmas. “Now the music industry in Nigeria is like a government ministry; it’s worth billions. There are so many artists in Nigeria that you might not have heard of, but trust me, they’re doing well.
Davido has never played down his own wealthy background; his 2012 debut album was entitled Omo Baba Olowo (Yoruba for “Son of a rich man”). He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to a family of Nigerian entrepreneurs, and he returned to the US to study engineering; when Davido went Awol to pursue music instead, his father was decidedly unimpressed — and had him arrested upon his reappearance in Lagos.

“My dad didn’t like me doing music!” laughs Davido. “If he saw my face on a billboard, he’d arrest everybody at that show! But when I made the song ‘Dami Duro’ [2011], it became the biggest track in Africa; it’s saying: ‘I’m the son of a rich man, you can’t stop me, and people love me.’ It now feels good for dad to see that music can take me this far.” This multilingual pop wave is arguably pan-African, with artists and fans taking inspiration from countries around the continent; it highlights the rich disparity of African cultures — and the limitations of the “afrobeats” tag. “In Nigeria, we all mix sounds together and collaborate; it’s natural,” says Davido. He prefers to call his own music “afrofusion”, with elements including hip-hop, Ghanaian high life, South African kwaito, and R&B. “It’s been generalised as afrobeats, but I have songs that sound like afropop, afrotrap . . . ”
