Boutaib scores winner, Eto'o fires blank as Yeni Malatyaspor topple Konyaspor
The Morocco international left it late to propel his side past their relegation-threatened hosts, with Eto'o failing to impact proceedings
Khalid Boutaib’s late goal ensured Samuel Eto'o Konyaspor ended on the losing side as Yeni Malatyaspor secured a 1-0 away victory in Sunday’s Turkish Super Lig encounter.
Although their hosts enjoyed most of the possession [60%] in an encounter bereft of goalmouth actions - with the Anatolian Eagle registering only two shots on target out of four - the former Strasbourg marksman punished them for their lack of enterprise.
In the 87th minute, Boutaib shrugged off the challenge of a defender to control a searching pass from Arturo Mina before poking the winner past Serkan Kirintili. The goal was the 30-year-old's 11th in the 22 Turkish top-flight games he has played this season.Eto’o played for 63 minutes but could not help Konyaspor as he made it three games without adding to his lone effort for his new side.
Azubuike Okechukwu also featured in the tie for the visitors and was the first player to get into the referee’s book after he was cautioned 10th minutes after kick off. However, the Nigeria international lasted the entire duration of the tie.
Malatyaspor remain ninth in the Super Lig log having collected 34 points from 24 games while their hosts are unmoved from the 16th spot with 21 points from 24 games.
