Dreaded Boko Haram terrorists have killed about 18 persons after they attacked villages in Borno state.

At least 18 people were killed and 84 wounded when Boko Haram jihadists clashed with Nigerian soldiers near the northeastern city of Maiduguri overnight, a report by AFP revealed.

Speaking on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Benlo Dambatto, an official from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) told AFP that 18 bodies have been recovered so far after the bloody clash.

“So far we have recovered 18 dead bodies from the two villages Bale Shuwa and Bale Kura,” Dambatto said.

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, is the birthplace of Boko Haram, whose nearly nine-year fight to establish a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria has claimed at least 20,000 lives and displaced more than two million people.

“The victims were killed while trying to escape the fight between the insurgents and the military,” said the Borno branch of SEMA.

The incredible story of a man eaten by his seven 6ft-long monitor lizards has been described as the 'most bizarre pet killing' ever seen.

Ronald Huff, cuddles one of his pet monitor lizards, which then ate him

When police arrived at the home of Ronald Huff, little could they imagine the horrors they were about to uncover.

After breaking into the ex-soldier's apartment, they were confronted with the gruesome sight of seven enormous Nile monitor lizards feasting on the 42-year-old's corpse.

The huge reptiles - flesh-eating, venomous and endemic to Africa - were covered in their owner's blood and were hissing aggressively at the officers.

To date Ronald's death remains one of the most terrifying and bizarre instances of a human being eaten by their pets.

Trinidad Navarro, former New Castle County Sheriff, told Animal Planet: "They received a call to check on the welfare of Ronald Huff.

"They knocked on the door but unfortunately there was no answer. They could hear things moving around inside when they were trying to gain entry.

"When they were finally able to get into the apartment they discovered Mr Huff's body, slumped up against the door.

"The largest of the monitor lizards actually did have stained blood about his face and neck so we do know he was in fact chewing on the victim."

To this day no-one knows if the lizards killed Ronald, or if the Newark, Delaware, car salesman died naturally and was then simply devoured by the free-roaming monsters.

Neighbour Jeff Wildonger said: "The smell from Ron's apartment was coming up this hollow wall into our bathroom. I could see that his face was pretty well eaten, I could see his molars up where his ears should have been."

An autopsy carried out by the State Medical Examiner in the weeks after Ronald's 2002 death was unable to determine exactly how he died.

However, Mike Cassidy, Ronald's former boss, later claimed his employee had once shown him injuries caused by the lizards' bite marks, suggesting he had been attacked before.

Mike said: "He was found near the door like he was trying to leave. One of the policeman had said that Ron was actually still alive when the lizards started to feed on him. They took his life."

Nile monitor lizards feast on small creatures, such as mice and rats, in the wild. Those in captivity are usually fed raw chicken.

Although they have become popular in the US as an exotic pet, they are considered dangerous due to their sharp teeth and venom.

This venom is not necessarily fatal to humans - but it can affect blood pressure and acts as a knockout punch on smaller creatures.

The then-SPCA director John Caldwell said the creatures were later placed in zoos or euthanized as one was acting aggressively, "going toward you, mouth open".

Last year Bethany Lynn Stephens was found dead near her home in Goochland, Virginia, two days after she was last seen walking her dogs.

The 22-year-old had been "eaten" by her two, powerful pitbulls.

In a press conference, Goochland County Sheriff James Agnew told reporters: "In the course of trying to capture the dogs early Friday morning... we turned and looked, I observed, as well as four other deputy sheriffs, the dogs eating the ribcage on the body. The injuries were very severe."

He added: "The victim had defensive wounds on her hands and arms trying to keep the dogs away from her, which would be consistent with being attacked while she was still alive."

He confirmed Ms Stephens was found dead in a horrific blood-covered scene, and he ruled out suggestions that she could have been killed by wild animals.

It took investigators eight hours to collect more than 60 pieces of evidence, according to reports.

The police investigation had been complicated by a "high volume of misinformation" spreading on social media so Sheriff Agnew felt compelled to reveal the "most important details", after informing her family.

It was an extraordinary day as a young and handsome millionaire was buried after being shot dead outside his home.
Sheron Sukhdeo before he was killed

Hundreds gathered as 33-year-old millionaire, identified as Sheron Sukhdeo was buried in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday.

The young Estate agent and car dealer was buried in a reportedly $50,000 casket as family and friends mourned. Sukhdeo was shot multiple times in a drive by attack outside the home of his relatives at Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville shortly before 9p.m in Trinidad and Tobago last week Monday.

The father of two died while being treated at a hospital and according to local media, he left behind an empire worth tens of millions of dollars to his wife and kids.

A report by NewsDay revealed that Sukhdeo’s send-off reflected the life he lived - luxurious vehicles, excessive gold jewellery, friends and family, loud music and a car show.

Just before his body was reduced to ashes, Sukhdeo was showered with Moët champagne at the Waterloo Cremation site in Carapichaima.

The 33-year-old father of two flashed his wealth on social media. He was also revered by those who associated with him and referred to him as the“World Boss.”

He died shortly after at the Chaguanas Health Facility.

At his funeral service at his palatial home in Orchard Gardens, Chaguanas, hundreds turned out to mourn. The car and real estate dealer’s luxury vehicles and other fast cars lined the street as mourners awaited the arrival of his body.

His images and his monkier were everywhere. Two large trucks also blared music.

The police remained on the street.

When the body arrived, his bronze-coloured casket was opened for the viewing of the body. Sukhdeo’s body was dressed in white and around his neck were his thick, heavy gold chains with massive medallions and other large pendants, reaching down to his waist.

His family also placed a pair of Timberland boots in the casket.

The media were prevented from entering his home at the request of Sukhdeo’s wife, Rachael.

After the Hindu funeral rites were performed by his family, the body was transported to the Waterloo Cremation site.

Along the route, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs and Faith Evans’ I’ll be Missing You was played on repeat on the music trucks.

Rachael, who, in 2016, posted photos of herself showing injuries she suffered during a beating from Sukhdeo, wept continously, as she embraced their two children.

The businessman was charged twice for assault in February 2016 and later in May 2017 but the charges were dropped after his wife refused to testify.

She gave him his last kiss before the heavy jewellery was removed from around Sukhdeo’s neck and his casket placed in the pyre.

It was then bottles of champagne was poured on the body and the car show began.

On the funeral programme was a poem, “Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems to be the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will be linked again.”

Many people have been left in a state of shock at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, Abia State after a doctor reportedly died of Lassa fever.
Lassa fever
An unidentified doctor with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, Abia State, has reportedly died of Lassa Fever, according to The Nation.
She died at Irua Specialist Hospital, Esan Central, Edo State, where she was transferred for treatment. Hospital sources said the patients were worried.
Speaking about the incident, a source told The Nation: “The resident doctor was a new registrar in the paediatrics department. She treated a child at the children emergency ward and we are suspecting she got infected there."
Also speaking, another source said the doctor started working at the hospital barely one month before the incident, adding that she fell sick and was admitted to the Slessor Private ward of FMC between March 29 and 30.
She was transferred to Irua where the diagnosis was confirmed. She allegedly died a few days after admission.
“Contact tracing and risk stratification are on. The hospital’s response team has been deployed.

“The doctors, we learnt, are not happy with the development, and are calling on the management to do something about their safety at work or they may be forced to stop work until their safety is guaranteed,” another source said.
Commissioner for Health Dr. John Ahukanna, his information counterpart John Okiyi and the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on health, Dr. Ikechukwu Nwabekee, could not be reached for comments.

The Federal Government has released the second batch of names of people who reportedly stole billions of naira from the country.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government has released a new list of 23 alleged looters who stole from the country. The new list was released on Sunday, April 1st by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The new list is made up of mostly members of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a press statement, Minister of Information and Culture, ALhaji Lai Mohammed said the list of alleged looters which gives had earlier released  on Friday was based on verifiable facts, including the amount involved, the date the amount in question was collected and from where it was taken.

Mohammed, also said those complaining that the list was too short apparently did not understand that it was strategically released as a teaser.

”At the press conference where the list was released, I did say it was a tip of the iceberg. Apparently, this does not mean anything to people whose style is to comment on issues they barely understand, or just to shoot down anything coming from the government,” he said, adding that the Federal Government has a large number of alleged looters on its list.

Alhaji Mohammed slammed the PDP for daring to challenge the Federal Government over an issue that the party knows is its weakness: Looting
of public treasury.

”What was the PDP expecting when it challenged the FG to name the looters of the public treasury under the party’s watch? Did the PDP actually believe that the massive looting under its watch was a joke?
Did they think it is April Fool?” he queried.

The Minister said the PDP’s reaction to the looters’ list has shown that its recent apology is an election-induced act, contrived to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians to vote for the party in the 2019 general election, even when it has not come clean on its looting spree during its time in office.

”The hysterical and panicky reaction from the PDP has shown that the party is not at all sincere about its choreographed apology. Were it not the case, the party would have followed in the footsteps of one of its leaders, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, who simply owned up to his role in the party’s rigging in the past elections and said he had turned a new
leaf.

”It is said that a true confession is done in humility with an attitude of repentance. It is clear that the PDP does not know this,
hence its resort to hubris instead of humility and genuine penitence,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed said the Federal Government will neither be intimidated nor blackmailed into silence, adding that it will also not
rest until all those who looted the public treasury have been brought to justice.

A man has managed to trick his daughters into going to school in a really hilarious "April Fool" prank.
Philip Boucher-Hayes convinced his two daughters, pictured, they had to go to school on Easter Sunday

A witty dad has played a cruel, albeit hilarious, prank on his two daughters, The Sun UK reports.

Identified as Philip Boucher-Hayes, the man got his girls up and dressed for school - on a Sunday of all days - before diabolically revealing it was all a cruel trick.

He even faked a text from their school, St Patrick's, saying they needed to come in to make up for days missed due to snow.

A day before the prank, he announced on Twitter: "I know the evil little s***s have something awful planned for tomorrow morning.

"But they have yet to find out what a truly twisted genius their father is... Wave if you see them waiting for the bus."

He filmed the girls, dressed in full school uniform, looking truly depressed to be up so early on a Sunday.

His daughters' sadness transformed into relief when he announced it was just a prank

Their frowns transformed into relief - and a little embarrassment - when he yelled: "April Fool's!"

"The only reason I didn’t send them up to wait for the bus was I was too lazy to do the lunchboxes," Philip wrote on Twitter after the prank.

Most parents were unanimous in their praise and appreciation.

"You evil, brilliant genius. And they were even in their uniforms... bless them," wrote Colm O'Gorman.

Karl Brophy, clearly desperate for some alone time, said: "This beats my sending the kids out in to the garden for a 20 minute Easter Egg hunt."

And Jim Daly branded Philip a "funny, cruel b*****d" - with a dollop of respect, we assume.

But Paul Hayes issued a stark warning, saying: "Their first three boyfriends will be in direct retaliation for this... Savour it."

A bride who just got married in Kaduna has suffered an unfortunate fate in the hands of criminal abductors.

There was confusion at Birnin Gwari Town in Kaduna State on Saturday night when a new bride and 10 others were abducted at gun point by bandits in the area.

The bride, after the wedding, was being conveyed to her husband’s house by her friends and relatives w‎hen the gunmen stopped the vehicle and took them away.

The incident which took place at about 8 p.m. threw the community into confusion.

Confirming the kidnap, a former chairman of the local government who asked not to be named for security reasons, told PREMIUM TIMES on phone that the gunmen operated with impunity as nobody challenged them.

“They simply stopped a bus that was conveying the bride to her husband’s house with her relatives and friends numbering about 10. The incident took place about 55 kilometres from Birnin Gwari main town,”he said.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that three of the people abducted including a member of the bride’s entourage escaped and returned to the town on Sunday morning.

“The Funtua road is now a danger zone because at any point they (bandits) can strike. They operate with impunity along that highway because it’s bordering Birnin Gwari and Katsina.

“Our ‎vigilantes need little support to engage these bandits. The government needs to mobilise the vigilantes and support them to enable them discharge their work effectively,”
the ex-council chairman said.

In a similar development, on Friday, two young men riding a motorcycle were also abducted along Uduwa community in Birnin Gwari.

One of the victims is the son of the Deputy Imam of Uduwa village, PREMIUM TIMES learnt. Their abductors are demanding N3 million ransom.

Hussaini Iduwa, a community leader and resident of Oduwa town in Birnin Gwari, confirmed the abduction in a telephone interview.

When contacted, the Kaduna State police spokesperson, Aliyu Muktar, said the command was not informed of the incidents.

Birnin Gwari has witnessed several attacks by armed bandits. Eleven soldiers were recently killed in the town by the bandits who attacked a military checkpoint. The slain soldiers were buried last week.

New details have emerged detailing how the suspecte assassins linked to Senator Dino Melaye escaped from police custody.
Dino Melaye

The escape of six suspected criminals linked to Dino Melaye, a Senator representing Kogi West was allegedly planned and coordinated with the aid of some Nigeria Police officers at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lokoja,  police sources told Saharareporters.

The six suspects; Kabiru Seidu a.k.a Osama, Nuhu Salisu a.k.a Small, Aliyu Isa, Adams Suleiman, Emmanuel Audu and Musa Mohammed escaped from ‘A’ Division of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) detention in Lokoja, Kogi State’s Capital, where they were being held pending their court appearance with Mr. Melaye who was also been declared wanted by the police.

Kabiru and Salisu had earlier confessed to working for Melaye.

The Police said the two suspects linked to the Senator were arrested on January 19 at Ogojueje in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, after a shootout.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, said; “According to the gang leader, Osama, he had been working as a political thug for Alhaji Mohammed Audu.

“He said Alhaji Mohammed Audu invited him to Abuja and introduced him to Senator Dino Melaye and they met on Airport road, Abuja inside Senator Melaye’s car in the month of December 2017."

“The suspect further confessed that Sen. Dino Melaye told him that they should start working for him as his political thugs and they should recruit and train other thugs to work for him in preparation for the 2019 general elections to enable him ( Sen. Dino Melaye ) challenge his political opponents and disorganize Kogi State.”

The Senator also allegedly gave them guns and money to recruit more thugs against 2019 elections.

SaharaReporters reported the rearrest of five of the escapees on Friday, leaving out the leader of the gang, Osama, who is yet to be recaptured.

However, Police sources have told Saharareporters that the suspects were able to escape with the help of police officers who assisted them to smuggle in mobile phones used to plan and reach their allies who arranged their subsequent escape from police custody.

One of the sources told Saharareporters that the rearrested escapees were captured through a food vendor linked to the police station, she reportedly concealed mobile phone devices inside "fufu" and passed them through police guards manning the cells of the high profile criminals.

Our sources also revealed to us that Osama might likely be swooped in today as policemen on trial would make a strike tonight.

Following the escape, Melaye gave the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, a 48-hour ultimatum to recapture the suspects or risk facing court action, however, Mr. Melaye has remained eerily quiet since the jail-breaking criminals were re-arrested by the police.

Mr. Melaye was recently arraigned before an Abuja court on a two-count charge for giving false information to the police with the intent to mislead over declarations he made that some persons linked to Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello planned to assassinate him last year. The Independent National Electoral Commission is also embarking on a recall of the Senator from the Nigerian Senate.

Mr. Melaye is not new to involvement in assassinations and violence, in 2008, a United States report linked Mr. Melaye to the death of One Mr. Victor Obafaiye who was a principal witness in a petition of election malpractice filed against the Senator.

Our sources also revealed to us that Osama might likely be swooped in today as policemen on trial would make a strike tonight.

World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has gone a full 12 rounds for the first time in his career as he defeats Joseph Parker.

Boxing – Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker – World Heavyweight Title Unification Fight – Principality Stadium, Cardiff, Britain – March 31, 2018 Anthony Joshua celebrates with the belts after winning the fight Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Couldridge

In what could be described as a sweet victory from a hard earned bout, Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua on Sunday emerged the clear winner to add the WBO heavyweight belt to his WBA, IBO and IBF titles.

The Nigerian born professional boxer defeated Joseph Parker at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in the heavyweight unification bout with a unanimous points verdict.

Joshua who was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, to Nigerian parents, Yeta, and Robert Joshua added the WBO belt to the WBA and IBF belts he already holds, but he took the distance for the first time in his professional career.

It was his 21st straight career victory, although previously unbeaten New Zealander Parker delivered a battling display without seriously troubling Joshua.

Joshua, almost a stone lighter than when he beat Carlos Takam in Cardiff last October, did enough without setting the fight alight, while Parker had his moments, even if an upset victory never looked on.heer size and power of Joshua was keeping him mostly on the retreat and he was wobbled a little again.

The WBO title holder was keeping himself in the rounds but having difficulty doing enough to win them. He did; however, appear to edge the fifth when he broke past the AJ jab to land a couple of good rights.

Suitably encouraged, Parker went on all-out attack at the start of the sixth and drove Joshua around the ring with a series of rights. When Joshua landed a heavy right himself the Kiwi absorbed the shock, true to his resilient reputation.

Plan B for team Parker, if he could not land an early knockout, was to test Joshua’s allegedly suspect stamina deep into the fight. Joshua was warned by referee Giuseppe Quartarone for throwing a huge right uppercut on the break.

The punch was reminiscent of the one which undid Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley but fortunately it did not have the same effect. Had it done so there might have the risk of a disqualification.

Parker was doing his best to drag Joshua into a brawl. AJ was tempted but held his temper and picked off the opponent with a sizeable left at close quarters. This time Parker staggered but again he took a punch which might have finished many another heavyweight.

We were in the rounds in which Joshua had predicted a knockout victory, but his rhythm was being interrupted by the tape on his glove coming loose. That made for a messier round and Parker may have edged it with a couple of right-hand sorties.

Joshua reasserted himself with three big lefts which reddened Parker’s right eye. But once again he was having trouble putting his man away.

Parker had made real fight of it against size and odds but there was still no sign of the knockout he needed when decisively behind on the score cards. And a couple of late lefts from Joshua took the penultimate round away from him.

There was no sign of Joshua running out of steam. So that question appeared to have been answered. But come the final bell Parker had still never been put down in his career. Joshua went for that scalp in the last but the knock-out was not be and the reception from the crowd was mixed.

After causing quite a stir by going unclad in his music video, Nigerian singer Brymo has explained why he did what he did.
Brymo

Nigerian Singer, Olawale Ashimi, more popularly known as Brymo, practically crashed the internet during the week when he released a video for his song, Heya. In the video, the singer appeared to be in his birthday suit as he went n*de playing a grand piano under a network of bridges.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, the singer shed light on why he took that step. “The song is an expression of my environment. I like to paint as much as I can and I think that most of us are bush people, even though we live in cities. The video portrayed a bush man living in the city. If you look around, you wouldn’t see much evidence of civilisation. We did not create most of the things that we use in this country and that’s not good. We need to think, he stated.”

A clip from the controversial music video

Reacting to claims that his nudity in the video was just a publicity stunt to draw attention to the song, Brymo said, “Even if it’s a publicity stunt, is there anything wrong with that? Singers spend a lot of time and energy in the studio. So is there anything absurd in them drawing some attention to their songs?”

On whether he feels underrated in the country, he said, “No, I am not. People are used to a system and if you want to change them, you have to do it slowly. My albums are doing well and we found that most people, who download my music are in Europe and America. Right now, I have no complaints.”

Dismissing claims that he doesn’t perform at top concerts in the industry anymore, Brymo said, “I only perform at top shows. Just this week, I have had two events. I will also be performing today (Sunday) as well. Generally, I get a lot of love in Africa, and as for the people who say they haven’t seen me perform on big stages lately, they are most likely looking in the wrong places. As much as I’m looking at having an international career, Africa will always be my root. I was once signed to an American company, EGM, and I released an album with them but things didn’t go as planned and we went our separate ways.”

President Muhammadu Buhari and Akinwunmi Ambode have disagreed on what the president came to do at Eko Atlantic City.
Ambode and Buhari meet

The Presidency and the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, have disagreed over what President Muhammadu Buhari went to do at the Eko Atlantic City during his two-day working visit to the state.

Governor Ambode said in his official Twitter handle that the President went there to inaugurate the project.

The tweet read, “We took a tour of the Eko Atlantic City with Mr. President as he officially commissioned (sic) the project. Eko Atlantic is a good example of what Public and Private Partnership can do to the Nigerian economy.”

However, Twitter went wild with many users pointing out that it was former President Goodluck Jonathan who in company with the then Governor,  Babatunde Fashola, and former United States President, Bill Clinton, that inaugurated the project in 2013.

The pictures of Jonathan inaugurating the project were also shared multiple times on the micro-blogging site.

In his response on Twitter, however, Buhari disagreed with Ambode, insisting that he only went to inspect the project.

Using the handle, @NGRPresident, he said, “The President did not commission (sic) or launch Eko Atlantic City. His visit was a tour as part of a two-day offical visit to Lagos State and the plaque he unveiled was to commemorate his visit to the site.”
