While speaking at a ‘world press conference’ at the National Assembly Abuja on Wednesday, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, denied allegations he compromised the sacked director-general of the Department of State Security Service, Lawal Daura.

The senate president was late on Tuesday, accused by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its supporters online that he was the one who plotted the controversial blockade of the National Assembly.

In a swift response to the viral allegations, the influential politician and former Kwara State governor, responded to the claim on Wednesday, saying the claims were counter-intuitive.

“Let us not insult the intelligence of Nigerians,” Saraki said of the attacks, adding that he was also a victim of alleged recklessness of security chiefs, including Daura.

The Senate Presdient also mentioned that his security detail was recently reduced, as well as that of Speaker Yakubu Dogara, all without recourse to due process.

Speaking further, Saraki also commended the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo for sacking of the erstwhile Director-General of the DSS, Lawal Daura on Tuesday saying,“Mr. Acting President did the right thing. “

“I thank the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for his handling of the situation we were all confronted with yesterday. His decisive action went a long way towards restoring confidence,” the Senate President said.
